• Project of the Catholic Archdiocese AIDS Care
  Commission
• Working in six communities

• Care of the Caregiver
• Sinosizo currently has 150 volunteers within the
  OVC and HBC Programmes
• Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organisation
  
• Some of our volunteers were patients themselves
  and through the care that they received are now
  in a position to give something back

• Formalised support groups not always successful
• At Sinosizo we have looked at alternative ways
  to provide support and care for our volunteers
  (the caregivers)
• We also look at support of other caregivers such
  as grandparents and child-headed households

• Training
• HBC Training includes the following
• Home Based Care (25 days 3 months practical
  work in the community portfolio of evidence
• Peer Education (5 days 3 community awareness
  initiatives including World Aids Day)
• HIV/AIDS Information (5 days)
• Lay Counseling (15 days 20 hours practical
  counseling in a structured environment)
• ARV Treatment and Adherence Monitoring (5 days)
• Palliative Care (5 days)

• OVC Training includes the following
• Understanding Children (10 days 20 days
  practical exposure in the community)
• Working with Children (10 Days 20 days
  practical exposure in the community)
• Bereavement and Building Resilience (5 days 20
  days practical exposure in the community)
• Duration of training 85 days

• Access to professional staff nurse and social
  workers
• Mentoring and counselling
• Involvement in patient support groups
• Retreats
• Volunteers days
• Long service awards
• Celebrate special occasions
• Referrals for better positions

• Assist with food parcels
• Assist with school uniforms
• Assist with access to grants and documents
• Assist with access to medical treatment

• Counselling / psycho-social support
