  • Parents struggling with whether or not your
    student may be using drugs and/or alcohol, drug
    and alcohol tests are available to parents in the
    Assistant Principals Office.
  • Cost is 4.00 per test.
  • Tests can be administered in the privacy of your
    own home.
  • Tests include alcohol, THC (marijuana),
    cocaine, methamphetamine, opiates, and nicotine
  • Single tests and multi-tests available

Credit Recovery
  • Night School - Compass Pointe
  • Current session starts on October 1, 2007
  • Classes held in New Baltimore (Anchor Bay
    Schools)
  • Offerings include - Computers, Algebra, US
    History, English Literature, US. Government, and

  • Cost is 120.00 per course and meet on MW or T
    TH (16 week courses)
  • Summer School
  • Offered through Algonac Community Schools, East
    China Schools, and Compass Pointe (Anchor Bay
    Schools)
  • Cost ranges from 120.00 to 175.00 per course -
    depending on where you go.
  • Information comes out in late spring.
  • Michigan Virtual High School (on-line classes)
  • Courses done on-line, at a students own pace
  • A variety of different courses offered in the
    core subject areas.
  • Cost is 275.00 per course.
  • See your guidance counselor for more information
    on these options for credit recovery.

Attendance
  • Attending school on a regular basis is a key
    element to success in high school.Research shows
    that there is a direct relationship between good
    attendance and classroom success.
  • AHS allows for nine (9) absences a semester.
  • Any student exceeding nine (9) absences is placed
    on attendance contract and may lose credit.
  • Once on contract, if the student misses any
    additional days that are unexcused the student
    will lose credit.
  • Students who are on attendance contract may only
    earn credit G in class. They forfeit the letter
    grade. Credit is granted if the student doesnt
    violate the attendance contract for the remainder
    of the semester. If the student does violate the
    attendance contract no credit or an H will
    appear on the high school transcript.

The High School Transcript
  • Is a record of all the class taken and grades
    earned in high scool.
  • Middle school grades are not reported on the high
    school transcript.
  • The high school grade point average is
    cumulative, meaning that all grades are averaged
    together.
  • The GPA is unweighted.
  • 4-point scale
  • A 4, B 3, C 2, D 1, E 0

Student Planner
  • At the start of the 2007/08 school year, each
    student received a free student planner.
  • Great for recording important dates and homework.
  • If the planner is lost, students may purchase a
    new one from Mr. Latosz for 5.00
  • Also contains AHS Student Handbook with all
    school policies and procedure including dress
    code information.

Drivers Training
  • Offered at AHS
  • 275.00
  • Must be 14 years 8 months to attend
  • Two segments next one starts Sept 17 but is
    full. After that next one is January 08.
  • Earn .5 high school credit
  • 24 hrs classroom instruction or a minimum of
    three weeks. Classroom times and dates set by
    instructors.
  • 6 hours behind the wheel
  • 4 hours observation dual operated vehicle.

New AHS Ranking System
  • AHS has put in place a new ranking system
  • Suma Cum Laude 4.0 3.67
  • Magna Cum Laude 3.69 3.3
  • Cum Laude 3.29 3.0
  • Ten Summa Cum Laude speakers will be selected to
    compete for the opportunity to speak at
    graduation. The rubric is as follows
  • 1. Overall Grade Point Average
  • 2. ACT Score
  • 3. Class Selection Rigor
  • These ten candidates will be invited to audition
    in front of a selection committee if they wish to
    be one of three speakers at graduation.

Testing Out
  • Students may elect to test out of any course
    except for Federal Government, Physical
    Education, Health, and AP courses.
  • Applications are available in the Spring
  • Students must receive a 78 or better on all
    required course work and the exam.
  • Students will not receive transcript credit for
    the classes that they successfully test out of,
    but will be able to move on to the next course in
    that subject area.

Distance Learning
  • Courses are taught by an off-site instructor
  • German I and II - PHN
  • Lessons are taught/watched LIVE via the TV from a
    satellite
  • Assignments are delivered and turned in via fax
    or mail
  • Distance Learning classes are designed for
    independent, high motivated students
  • Classes are year-long therefore students are only
    allowed to drop at semester.

  • AHS offers 6 courses
  • AP History
  • AP Biology

  • AP Psychology
  • Courses follow a rigorous nationally recognized
    curriculum which prepares them to take the
    subject area AP test.
  • Students will receive college credit if they
    receive a qualifying score on the AP exam.
  • Colleges and Universities want to see AP classes
    on their applicants transcripts.

Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
  • AP grades are not weighted any differently when
    figured into a students cumulative GPA. However
    in AP courses, an 85 is the cutoff for an A-,
    and the grade scale goes down from there.

  • 54 or lower E

More on AP Classes
  • AP History is offered in 10th grade there is no
    prerequisite.
  • AP Biology prerequisite is successful
    completion of Biology I II. Offered every
    other year after this school year. Being offered
    this year, then 09/10 (your students junior yr)
  • AP Chemistry new 08/09 (next year) and will run
    again 10/11 (your students senior year).
    Prerequisite successful completion of Chemistry.
  • AP English must have taken College Composition
    and to take College Composition, must have taken
    a literature class.
  • AP Statistics may be taken concurrently with Core
    IV with instructor approval Ms. Burns.
  • AP Calculus prerequisite successful completion
    of Core IV.
  • AP Psychology no prerequisite (junior/senior
    class)

DUAL ENROLLMENTAllows for students to attend
college courses while enrolled in high school.
  • TO QUALIFY
  • Student must have taken and passed all sections
    of the PLAN.
  • Must have taken and passed highest level of
    course offered at high school.
  • Must be on track to graduate.
  • Students can only dual enroll in core subject
    areas.
  • If a student qualifies, ACS will pay the cost of
    tuition and registration fees only. Books,
    school supplies, and travel expenses are the
    responsibility of the student and their family.

    social studies).

Post-Secondary Planning
  • Sophomore students should start doing research on
    what schools they might be interested in
    attending. Some schools have high school classes
    that they require their applicants to have.
  • Students need to work hard to keep their GPA up
    and get involved in extra-curricular activities.

  • Why take it???
  • It is the national qualifier for the National
    Merit Scholarship Competition when taken your
    junior year.
  • Practice for SAT Reasoning Test
  • Get feedback about critical academic skills
  • Seek information from colleges

  • Cost is 13.00
  • 800 am until 1200 pm
  • Registration deadline is September 21st. Checks
    need to be made out to AHS and turned into the
    counseling center.

TEC Students
  • Are eligible to attend their Junior/Senior year
  • Attend AHS for three hours, attend TEC for three
    hours
  • Are eligible to apply for TEC their sophomore
    year if
  • - have all core requirements met
  • - have good attendance
  • - get application in on time
  • A representative from St. Clair TEC has set up an
    information booth and is available for questions.
