Introduction

• The Ku Klux Klan was once called the Invisible
  empire because it was a secret organization in
  America. The Ku Klux Klan was prejudice towards
  the black, Jews, Roman Catholics, Gay people,
  American females, and homosexuals. They wanted to
  make an Ideal America which only had Male
  Americans

Brief history

• The Ku Klux Klan was originally made up of 3
  ex-confederate generals that wanted to play
  pranks on black slaves. They started the Klan and
  recruited people into their Klan and they
  continued to play pranks on black slaves until
  when Tennessee passed a new law, which allowed
  blacks to own property. According to the American
  history, they called this the Republican
  reconstruction whichnot a lot of the members in
  the KKK liked. So, rather than just playing
  pranks on the blacks, they lynched them and burnt
  their houses and stopped blacks from voting.

population of the Roman Catholics, gays, black
slaves, Jews, American females were rapidly
lowering.

Thanks to some people, the Ku Klux Klan was
stopped in 1871. Blacks, Roman Catholics, Gay
people, Jews and American Females were no longer
threatened to be killed

• The Fortunes of the Ku Klux Klan run in cycles.
  Since its founding in 1866, it has gone through
  three periods of growth followed by years of
  decline. But like a weed that refuses to die, it
  has always blossomed after appearing to wither.
  Its famous history of hate and violence, often
  justified by myths about defending a way of life,
  gives it a natural appeal in a country like the
  United States that is so frequently torn by
  racial and religious hatreds. The Klans white
  robes and hoods have provided a cover for
  frightened Americans who are willing to break the
  law in the desperate attempt to prevent unwanted
  social changes. Yet the Klans violent methods
  have finally proved self-defeating.

Question How have specific historical incidents/
events and people impacted prejudice?

• During the night, they would dress up like ghosts
  to themselves. They then began to focus on racism
  and at that time Nathan Bedford Forest became the
  first leader of the group (Imperial Wizard). They
  killed a great number of African Americans and
  wanted to make America, an All American Country
  because they believed blacks were inferior to
  American White males, which was the only type of
  people allowed to join. They also do not like
  Roman Catholics, Gay people, Jews or anybody
  considered an outsider. They also believe White
  Woman are inferior. So they targeted these people
  that they had such hatred for by burning wooden
  crosses to frighten them and giving warning and
  threats to leave town immediately.

Question How does prejudice continue to impact
individuals and society?

• On April 19th 2004, 3 17 year old students were
  attempting to burn a cross in a black mans back
  yard. They said that it was just a prank and
  didnt know it had such high level of racism
  inside it.
• Arlington police said the boys decided to burn
  the cross because they were bored and wanted to
  play a prank on the pastor's 17-year-old son.
