Title: Taiwan Tuberculosis Symposium

Taiwan Tuberculosis Symposium
  • Nov.30-Dec.1, 2005

Taipei International Convention Center
2
Welcome Address
  • Dear Colleagues,
  • We warmly welcome you to the Taiwan
    Tuberculosis Symposium.
  • We are all gathered here to address new
scientific data and research results on the
tuberculosis control and also aim to increase the
public awareness. The topics in this symposium
    include tuberculosis epidemiology, laboratory
    diagnosis, nosocomial infection control and
stigma and solution of tuberculosis infection in
    aboriginal areas in Taiwan.
  • Tuberculosis causes 2 million deaths and
unquantifiable suffering each year, despite the
fact that proven, cost-effective treatments have
been available for decades. Over 10 years ago,
the World Health Organization (WHO) declared TB a
global health emergency. It is still an emergency
    today.
  • Tuberculosis, the statutory infectious
disease with most cases in Taiwan, not only
threatens people's health but influences our
national image and competitiveness. Besides, due
to flourishing tourism and frequent international
dealings, epidemic prevention and control become
a real challenge. An important issue on the
research of tuberculosis, with all the blessings
and efforts, actively break through the
bottleneck and improve the public health.
  • Sharing information and experiences with
colleagues will enable us to learn from one
    another, strengthen cooperation, promote research
and move forward to control of tuberculosis in
    Taiwan.
