• Fires sometimes start by lightning because
  lightning is a huge spark of electricity that
  heats up whatever it hits.
• Lightning can hit or kill people because
  lightning is electricity and electricity can
  shock people very hard on the head.

Causes of Lightning

• When liquid and ice particles above the freezing
  level collide, and build up large electrical
  fields in the clouds. Once these electric fields
  become large enough, a giant "spark" occurs
  between them, like static electricity, reducing
  the charge separation. The lightning spark can
  occur between clouds, between the cloud and air,
  or between the cloud and ground.

Where does lightning occur?

• Lightning occurs all around the world!!

Lightning occurs in groups of several bolts very
close to each other, and sound waves from
different bolts mix to form a continuous sound.

A description of lightning
Lightning, form of visible electric discharge
between rain clouds or between a rain cloud and
the earth.
Today, scientific rather than mystical techniques
are used to explain lightning with experimental
procedures replacing intuitive concepts. Yet, we
remain in awe of lightning which still shines
with its mystery, and rightly so. Each year,
lightning is responsible for the deaths of a
hundred or so people, injuries to several hundred
more, and millions of dollars in property damage,
in the United States alone.
