Context

• 3rd grade classroom in any Connecticut Town
• A lesson plan that can be covered over a 5 day
  week and used as an integrated language arts and
  social studies/geography lesson

Objectives

• Students will work cooperatively to understand
  that unique and different cultures are connected
  by shared values and themes (Kagan Cooperative
  Learning Course workbook 2000, James A. Banks,
  Approaches to Multicultural Reform 2004).

• Students will identify the elements of the
  Cinderella genre, and use text structure, such as
  story elements, to help understand that genre
  (The Connecticut Framework K-12 Curricular Goals
  and Standards)

• Students will apply geographic knowledge, skills
  and concepts to understand human behavior in
  relation to the physical and cultural
  environment(The CT Social Studies/Geography
  Content Standards and Program Goals)

• Review of yesterdays stories
• Review the concept of the Cinderella genre
• Story cube activity (whole class)

• Teacher reads todays Cinderella story
• Compare and contrast elements as a class Teacher
  models comparison/contrast

• Cooperative reading of new Cinderella stories in
  groups of 4
• Groups retell their stories to the class
• Placement of book flags on world map

• Students respond to writing prompts in Journals
  different Cinderella-based writing prompts will
  be available
