WHY DOES ALABAMA C/T NEED A MENTORING SYSTEM?

• Novice teachers enter the profession eager and
  ready to nurture and educate a group of students.
  We have to retain that ardor and vigor.
• One-Third of new teachers leave the profession
  during the first three years and about One-Half
  leave during the first five years of teaching.

Benchmarks

• Establish a planning team (ACTA District V.P.s)
• Establish a pool of capable, enthusiastic mentor
  teachers from various program areas. (automotive
  service, computer electronics, etc.)
• Establish mentor networks within regions (ACTA
  districts)

• Provide mentor/protégé relationships formally for
  a three year period.
• Provide Teacher Induction seminars for novice
  teachers (New Teacher Institute, New
  Administrators Academy)
• Provide professional development for Mentors
