A little bit about
Upward Bound
32
Upward Bound is our name and being college bound
is our game! We have a purpose and we fulfill it
and there is none quite like us, we are
different. We have taken the bulls by the horns
and come to the summer program with good
intentions and an open mind.
33
During our 5 week stay in Wooster at the OSU ATI
campus, We take classes to prepare us for the
upcoming school year. We take Math, Science,
Reading, Composition, Literature, and Video
Production.
34
. As you can see we have hardly any airjust like
college has the potential to be. It prepares us
in some ways and in some ways it can be a bit
whack. But hey we can roll with that because
there is no one quite like us!
35
  • We take classes in Halterman Hall and In Skou.
The two buildings are connected by a catwalk.
  • During free time and some of the athletics
students can go to the Student Activity Center
(SAC) and channel all of their energy.
  • During Free Time we also have the choice to go to
our dorms or go to the computer lab to do
    whatever we want.

36

Student Council
46
Student Council
Madame President
Not even having leadership with a strong
personality and a outgoing voice is ever enough
with being President . There is always a task to
be done or decision to be made.
47
Student Council
Vice President
Where would we be without our student council
government? Its a privilege to serve on student
council and help my peers.
48
Student Council
Recorder
If I help in having any students voice being
able to be heard, then Ive done my job.
49
Student Council
Parlimentarian
I feel awesome about being able to help with
student council this year. I love keeping order
in the meetings.
50
UB MORNING AFTERNOON CLASSES!!
STUDENTS WERE CHALLENGED EACH EVERY WAY DURING
ALL THEIR CLASSES!!! SOME WERE EASY AND SOME MADE
THEM THINK ON THEIR FEET, BUT EACH STUDENT IS
PREPARED FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR!!!

I went to a social work internship and it
actually made me want to change my major because
I didn't learn a lot. -Diamond
Throughout the summer program seniors were able
to venture off to job internships where they
would get an experience of the job field they
were considering.
I want to be an Electrical Engineer. It was a
very informational internship and Im glad of the
opportunity. -Josh
I want to be a Pediatrician, and it was a nice
experience following the nurses. Ive got to see
things Ive never seen before. -Candice   -
I want to be a doctor It wasnt exactly what I
was looking for. I wanted more hands on
experiences I was happy with the things I have
seen, but I don't want to be a Nurse or an
RN. -Kimberly
52
I definitely learned a lot about being a nurse.
I would do it all over again and would not change
anything. -Jazmine
I went to the College of Wooster to see a
probation officer. It was boring but being with
the probation officer taught me a
lot. -Diamond
I wanted to be a physical therapist, but
throughout the internship I learned that being a
PTA is the same thing as a PT and that the only
difference is they do a few more jobs than the
PTA, so it was actually nice and I enjoyed
it. -JaeLisa
53
Week One
The first week was very exciting! We kicked off
the summer program with our annual UB Picnic. We
also had our first Wednesday field trip to
Cleveland State University.
54
Week Two
By week two, we could find our classes and
everything was running smoothly. On Wednesday, we
visited The Wayne County Offices.
55
Week Three
Week three halfway over already? The summer
program was going by fast and before we knew it,
we were halfway done. This week we saw Ohio State
University!
56
Week Four
Week four, Amish Tour! We mixed it up this week
by visiting the Amish! We toured Heinis Cheese
Chalet and Yoders Amish home. We wrapped up our
trip by enjoying dinner at Mrs. Yoders Kitchen.
57
Week Five
Week five parting is such sweet sorrow. This was
our last week of classes, and we all said goodbye
to our teachers and friends that werent going to
Washington D.C. Our final Wednesday visit was to
Ashland University, where we toured an amazing
campus and hung with Cody White, an Upward
Bounder (08) currently attending Ashland
University.

Advice from the Seniors
82
Diamond E. Dont listen to people when they
try to judge you because it doesn't matter how
people want to portray you, youre your own
somebody and all dreams are possible. Take what
you can from the program and be appreciative that
someone really wants to help you.
Taylor Learn how to really define yourself,
and don't let anyone else do it for you. Try to
have fun in whatever situation you find yourself
in.
83
Jazmine Remind yourself of your goals on a
daily basis. Dont get to a point in life where
you don't know your purpose. Another thing would
be come in with an open mind. Theres no telling
what youll learn from others.
JaeLisa You speak for yourself as far as the
program goes. Ive gotten some help from UB, but
really take what you can from the program because
it will be something you will remember in the
future.
84
Brejanee Really try to understand that what the
summer staff are trying to teach you does help
and prepare you for your upcoming school year.
With the summer program you have to make it fun
for yourself and build friendships and interact
with the RAs and other students to have fun in
the summer program. Thanks to UB I met my best
friend here and she has been my best friend for
two years.
Briana Always use your time wisely because once
its gone you can never get it back
85
Candice What ever you want in life go for it.
Upward Bound helps you with application fees and
testing fees which saves you a lot of money. Make
a great first impression because sometimes its
not who you know, its what you know. Set aside
study time because that helps you raise your
grades.
Sharan If you want something go get it. No
holding back. Try to have your top five colleges
picked by your Junior year of high school.
86
Brooke Remember that people are fallible and
they will let you down. You have to look to God
and yourself to make something happen. So just
keep that in mind, and you can succeed. Make some
Noise!
Marcia Be Yourself. Never let anyone tell you
different. Enjoy life and make the fun of it. Be
positive and don't let people or things get to
you.
Diamond C. Take advantage of opportunities.
Take high school seriously and don't slack.
87
