Title: Working Annotated Bibliography

1
Working Annotated Bibliography
  • What is a working annotated bibliography?
  • A working annotated bibliography is a list of
citations to books, articles, and documents.
Each citation is followed by a summary of the
claim, bias, credibility and relevancy. The
purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader
of the claim, bias, credibility and relevancy of
    the sources cited.

Working Annotated Bibliography
  • - You will need at least 12 total sources in
your working annotated bibliography. The final
copy of the annotated bibliography will be turned
    in with your final paper.
  • - At least seven of these sources must be used
    in your final paper.
  • - Nine of these annotations are due at the
    beginning of class on Monday.

Annotated Bibliography
  • What is the purpose of an annotated
    bibliography?
  • Writing an annotated bibliography is excellent
preparation for a research project. Just
collecting sources for a bibliography is useful,
but when you have to write annotations for each
source, you are forced to read each source more
carefully. You will begin to read critically
instead of just collecting information, because
you have to make a judgment about which sources
    to use.

Annotated Bibliography
  • Every good research paper is an argument. The
purpose of research is to state and support a
thesis. A very important part of research is
developing a thesis that is debatable,
interesting, and current. Writing an annotated
bibliography can help you gain a good perspective
on what is being said about your topic. By
reading and responding to a variety of sources on
a topic, youll start to see what the issues are,
what people are arguing about, and then you will
be able to develop your own point of view that is
supported by the information you have found in
    the sources.

Annotated Bibliography

    impartial judgement
  • credibility- all about the author

Example
  • Waite, Linda J., Frances Kobrin Goldscheider, and
Christina Witsberger. "Nonfamily Living and the
Erosion of Traditional Family Orientations Among
Young Adults." American Sociological Review 51
    (1986) 541-554.
  • C Nonfamily living arrangements negatively
    affect adolescents beliefs about traditional
    family roles.
  • R This is the largest study which supports my
thesis. The findings in it match findings from 2
other studies I have read about.
  • B The authors wrote the paper to present to
the American Society of Sociology, which supports
the idea that society is changing at a rapid
    pace.
  • C Most of the surveys were distributed in
colleges knows for their liberal attitudes.
