The Boston Massacre

• March 5, 1770
• Colonists threw snowballs at British soldiers.
• Soldiers started shooting.
• 11 colonists hit, 5 killed.

The Boston Tea Party

• December 16, 1774
• Reaction to the Tea Act (granted monopoly to East
  India Tea Company)
• 50 colonists dressed as indians threw 90,000
  pounds of tea into the harbor

Paul Reveres Ride

• April 18, 1775
• Warned the militia of Lexington and Concord
• One if by land, two if by sea.

Lexington and Concord 1775

• British looking for weapons stored by colonists.
• Dont fire until you see the whites of their
  eyes!
• The shot heard round the world.
• American victory

• July 4, 1776
• 12 colonies voted for it, New York abstained.
• Made the war official.

• British victory
• 226 British killed, 140 Americans
• Fought outside of Boston.
• Took British three attempts
• Americans ran out of ammunition.

• October, 1777
• British surrender under General Burgoyne
• Major turning point in the war.
• A quarter of the British troops in America
  surrendered.

Valley Forge 1777-78

• Pennsylvania
• British had taken Philadelphia
• American forces under George Washington trained
  through the winter.

Yorktown, 1781

• Cornwallis vs. Washington
• American forces on land and French by sea
  surrounded British.
• British surrender ended the war.
