What is necessary for a computer?

• A computer is a very complex system that uses
  many different devices to operate. Some of these
  items are necessary while others are optional.

Central Processing Unit

• A Central Processing Unit (CPU) contains the
  arithmetic core used to fulfill the computer's
  processing.
• CPUs range in cost vary from 49.00 USD to
  around 1,300 USD.

Hard Drive

• The Hard Drive (HD) stores information such as
  documents and the computer operating system.
• Hard Drives range in price from 46.00 USD to
  1,200.00 USD for a top of the line HD

Motherboard

• The motherboard, or main-board, connects all the
  hardware to the CPU.
• Motherboards range in price from 50.00 USD to
  200.00 USD, depending on brand, quality, and
  features available on the board.

Monitors

• Monitors are used for viewing your desktop and
  computer applications.
• There are 2 types of monitors currently
  available CRT and LCD. LCD is newer technology
  and offers a better quality. CRT is older
  technology and is generally cheaper than LCD.
• CRT monitors range from 30.00 USD to 175.00
  USD.
• LCD monitors range from 210.00 USD to 1,075.00
  USD for top quality.

System Memory

• System memory is used to store recently used data
  and applications. Increasing computer memory will
  increase a computers performance.
• Memory varies on price. Price is influenced by
  amount of memory on one stick, brand, and type
  (SDRAM, DDR, DDR2). Memory can range from 30.00
  USD to 925.00 USD for a single 2 Gigabyte stick
  of memory.

Heat Sink Fans

• Heat Sink Fans provide cooling to the Central
  Processing Unit. By doing this, a heat sink fan
  ensures CPU lifetime and stable running.
• Heat sink fans range in price from 5.00 USD to
  60.00 USD depending on processor and fan
  accessories.

Power Supply

• The power supply provides a power source to the
  computer.
• Power supply units are influenced in price by the
  amount of wattage provided. A standard 300 watt
  power supply starts at 30.00 USD and price can
  range to 170.00 USD for a 600 watt power supply.

Advanced Video Cards

• Advanced video cards allow for multimedia
  production and usage on a computer. There are
  several varieties of Video cards including AGP,
  PCI, and PCI-E.
• Video Cards range in price depending on quality
  and name brand. Cheaper, older video cards may
  cost 35.00 USD. High end video cards sell for
  510.00 USD and anywhere upwards to 1,000.00 USD
  for an SLI chipset.

• A CD-ROM drive is used for transferring
  information from disks to and from the Hard
  Drive.

• Floppy drives can store small amounts of data
  onto Floppy Disks. Floppy Drives are generally
  used for typed documents and other small data.

• Sound cards are used to project a variety of
  sounds from the computer's speakers.

• A mouse is used to direct a pointer on the
  monitor around the screen. It allows you to
  access information on the computer by allowing
  you to open files on the computer.

• Several things you can replace to upgrade your
  computer performance include

• Replacing your existing graphics card to a newer
  model
• Buying and installing a new CPU and motherboard
• Replacing your existing Hard Drive
• For better sound quality, you can upgrade your
  current sound card
