The mission of the American Pharmacists
Association Academy of Student Pharmacists
(APhA-ASP) is to be the collective voice of
student pharmacists, provide opportunities for
professional growth, and envision and actively
promote the future of pharmacy

- What is a Policy or Resolution?
- A policy or resolution states APhA-ASPs official
position on a variety of important issues such as
political advocacy and pharmacy education - Creates a unified voice for student pharmacists
- Provides students with guidance to lobby local,
state, and national political issues - What is the Policy Process?
- A democratic means by which student pharmacist
can raise issues, debate them, and formulate our
collective position

Step 1 APhA-ASP Member has an Idea
- Idea that affects student
pharmacists the profession
of pharmacy
Step 2 Chapters Discuss Ideas
- Member takes idea to chapter
for discussion
5APhA-ASP Policy Process
Step 3 Chapters Attend the MRM Policy Proposal
Forum
- Idea is proposed and floor is opened for debate
Step 4 Chapter Delegates Convene at the MRM
Closing Business Session
- One delegate from each chapter votes in favor or
opposition to the resolution

From MRM to DC in January
Step 5 APhA-ASP Resolutions Committee Discuss
Resolutions Passed at MRM
- Regional Delegates meet in January to review all
of the ideas passed in each region, and choose
the most important ideas to discuss at the Annual
Meeting

Step 6 Proposed Resolutions Sent to All Chapters
- Each chapter is sent the resolutions that will be
proposed by the Resolutions Committee at the
Annual Meeting

While at the APhA Annual Meeting
Step 7 APhA-ASP Chapters Attend the Open Hearing
on Proposed Resolutions
- Anyone can voice their opinions on the proposed
resolutions
Step 8 APhA-ASP Reference Committee Meets
- Closed session where all of the proposed changes
are discussed by Committee
9APhA-ASP Policy Process
While at the APhA Annual Meeting
Step 9 Reference Committee makes
Recommendations to the APhA-ASP HOD
- Adopt as written
- Reject resolution
- Adopt as amended
- Refer to committee
Step 10 APhA-ASP House of Delegates Convenes
Chapter Delegates vote on recommendations from
Reference Committee
10APhA-ASP Policy Process
After the APhA Annual Meeting
Step 11 APhA-ASP Policy Standing Committee
Takes Action
Solicits comments and recommendations for action
and reconvene to determine the implementation of
each resolution
Step 12 Approval by the APhA Board of Trustees
The APhA Board of Trustees reviews the reports
of both the APhA-ASP House of Delegates and
the APhA-ASP Policy Standing Committee

Step 13 Action Plans on Resolutions Implemented
APhA-ASP Standing Committees take action and
facilitate implementation activities
