Operations
On Tuesday, 29 June, Rakan Said Ali Al Jubouri,
Kirkuk Provincial Council Representative, and LTC
Leith conducted a meeting with several of the
local leaders in Huwayjah to discuss security
issues in the region.

LTC Leith was interviewed by a reporter from Al
Iraq and Al Arabia television. During the
interview, LTC Leith congratulated the people of
Iraq and Huwayjah on their sovereignty and said
the Multi-National Forces are remaining to assist
the Iraqi people with security.

On June 29, Task Force Wolfhounds reunited 18
detainees with their communities. The detainees
were greeted by LTC Leith at FOB McHenry and were
given words of encouragement before escorting
them to their new found freedom.

On June 29, Task Force 1-27 established a Joint
Coordination Cell at FOB McHenry with the 207th
Iraqi National Guard Battalion and the Police
Department. The JCC will facilitate security
efforts in the Huwayjah district.
The JCC has enhanced the effectiveness of joint
patrols conducted by the Multi-National Forces
and the Iraqi Security Forces. The JCC will
eventually be relocated to the ING Battalion
Headquarters in Huwayjah as another step to
increasing Iraqs responsibility for security.

On July 3, Multi-National Forces presented new
flags to each of the 6 sub-district councils in
AO West in support of the Iraqis new sovereignty.
Throughout the week, the Multi-National Forces
attended city council meetings as observers and
were present at the raising of the new flags in
each of the sub-districts.
Task Force 1-27 Infantry is continuing to show
support for the new government. The unit is also
demonstrating its willingness to stand
side-by-side with Iraqis in the combine effort to
make the country secure and stable.

9950 to refurbish and improve Al Tarqia Primary
School WHEN June WHERE Al Tarqia in Al Abassi
Sub-District WHY The Multi-National Forces
understand the importance that a clean and
maintained environment has on learning. The
children are the future of Iraq, and their
education will largely determine the countrys
future. WHAT WAS DONE The CERP funds were used
to purchase fans, water faucets, repair windows,
and resurface and paint the walls. The
improvements will help with controlling the
environment in the classrooms and will inspire
pride in the school. BENEFIT TO THE COMMUNITY
The school repairs hired several people from the
local community. It will also provide a cleaner
and a more welcome learning environment for 150
students.

On July 6, Rashad hosted the grand opening of
their communication center. The communication
center will provide telephone service for several
thousand people in the district. The event was
attended by three Kirkuk Provincial Council
Representatives (Sheik Wasfi, Sheik Abdullah, and
Muhammad), several city council members, the
mayor (Sheik Louis), and LTC Leith.
The project was funded by Coalition Forces at a
cost of 37,000. All of the work was completed
by local contractors. The communication center
is an important step in building infrastructure
for the community that will assist in building
long term economic and job opportunities.

On July 7, CPT Flores distributed meals to hungry
families and children in the town of Al
Sabbaghiyah in the Al Zab sub-district. The
meals were provided to TF 1-27 by the Brigade
Chaplain as part of a goodwill mission to help
less fortunate Iraqi families. Close to 50 meals
were distributed to the community.
