Birth and Family
  • Jesus was born in Roman ruled Palestine during
    the reign of Augustus.
  • Jesus was born on the 25 of December (Christmas
    day)
  • Jesus family is known as the Holy Family.
  • The Roman Catholic and Anglican confessions of
Faith limit the family to Mary, Joseph, and
    Jesus.
  • Other confessions understand the biblical
accounts as indicating that Jesus had brothers
    and sisters
  • In the Roman Catholic church the feast after
Christmas of the Holy Family is held on the first
    Sunday after Christmas.
  • Michelangelo, Bartholomew, Murielle, Peter Paul
Rubbens, and Luca Signorelli all painted many
    paintings of the Holy Family.
  • Jesus is important because people gathered around
and listened to his miracle stories, his
exorcisms and healing of the sick. But soon
rulers heard these and arrested him in Jerusalem.

Gospels
  • Most of the information for Jesus we get from the
Gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John.
  • the Gospel of John was started with Jesus magic
    of turning water into wine.
  • Adolf van Harnack said the Gospels were the rule
of God and the inner heart of humans and the
    command of love.
  • Mark as its said was to start the Gospels and it
served as both a source and model for other
    Gospels.

Facts about Jesus
  • In addition to the title Messiah , or Christ,
tradition records that Jesus was acclaimed as son
of god, son of man, son of David, the prophet who
is to come, king of Israel savior, and servant
  • Every time the Messianic title implied a special
    relationship to Jesus Christ
  • Early Christianity, especially those who reared
on educated in gentile territory, used other
images to descried what God had done through
Jesus for the redemption of the world.
  • By the time later gospels were written, Jesus was
    identified as with God.
  • Around the year 200 controversy arose as to
whether Jesus had two natures, or one human and
    one divine.
  • At the end of 299 Tertullian asserted that God
was of one substance consisting in 3 persons

Death and Resurrection
  • Jesus was a 1st century Jewish teacher who was
    crucified by the Romans.
  • They killed him on the cross when they stabbed
giant nails through his hands and ankles.
  • Jesus was left like that until his death.
  • After his death he was resurrected, (came back to
life) and walked the Earth for 40 days. After a
period of time he finally entered heaven.
