Me!
  • Also known as Etastic, Auntie Em, Em, Emmy, ET,
    Emilio, and, of course, Emily.
  • In this photo I am holding a very furry New
    Zealand possum!

3
Growing up in Lex Vegas
  • I was born and bred in Lexington, Massachusetts,
otherwise known as the historical hub of New
    England, Lex Vegas.
  • The single most exciting event in the history of
my hometown, namely the Battle of Lexington,
occurred on April 19, 1775 and is religiously
reenacted at 545 am every year.

Meet the Traverse Family

    (John), me (Emily)
  • Front row from left to right brother (Keith)
holding my baby nephew (Sam), sister-in-law
(Katie) holding my 2 year old niece (Tierney)

5
Four Years in Amish Country
  • After eighteen years of residing in the
historical, but otherwise not so happening town
of Lex Vegas, I migrated about 400 miles south to
    Amish Country (Lancaster, Pennsylvania).
  • Being the practical minded person I am, I pursued
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology and
American Studies at Franklin Marshall College.

6
The Makings of a Kiwi Wannabe
  • Two and a half years into my B.A., I felt the
need to spread my wings again, so I migrated just
about as far south as I could go and lived for
five months in New Zealand (see arrows).
  • I saw a lot of sheep and met my future hubby
    there.

7
My Tour of Self Discovery
  • After my five month stint studying abroad in New
Zealand, I flew back to the US to finish my B.A.,
only to return to the land down under a year
    later.
  • It was then that my tour of self discovery began.
I worked my best and worst jobs during that time,
met the infamous Olle Bolle man (top right) and
cruised the country with my hubby, Gareth.

8
All them jobs
  • While awaiting an epiphany as to what on earth
I was meant to be doing with my life I tried on a
number of job for size. I worked as a landscaper,
a strawberry picker, an ice cream factory worker,
a book binder, a petrol pumper, and my favorite
by far, an Olle Bolle Dutch donut seller.

9
My Foxy Forester, Gareth
  • Despite considerable persistence and patience
on my part, my epiphany alluded me, but one thing
did become clear during my year in New Zealand.
  • The purple suit touting forester, Gareth, and I
were two peas in a pod!

10
Doo doo Duty
  • In October 2004 I returned to the US, briefly
worked as a bean picker on a farm in
Massachusetts, and then set out west to Seattle
to take care of my then five month old niece and
    two big dogs.
  • Thats a lot of poop!

11
My sometimes X-Rated Hobby
  • During my year and a half nanny stint in Seattle,
I rediscovered my love of triathlons.
  • It was all going so well until I accidentally
wore a rather x-rated, chlorine eaten bathing
suit to a race this past summer! Oops!

12
Career Considerations
  • All during my tour of self discovery and my
tour of doo doo duty, I tried to consider what I
would enjoy doing day in and day out, year after
    year.
  • Other than being a princess, of course.

13
My Epiphany!
  • I finally realized that
  • 1. I always brought a stack of my beloved
    childrens books to college.
  • 2. I had a proclivity for sneaking into
childrens story time at my moms library.
  • 3. I had an all out obsession with construction
paper, pipe cleaners and googly eyes.
  • I should be a childrens librarian!

14
SLAIS or Bust
  • So I said goodbye to my niece, the two dogs,
and my new baby nephew and headed north, a very
    refreshing change of direction.
  • But on my way my poor little Civics A/C
broke, I ate escargot and saw Hope for the first
time, my poor little Civic got towed and Gareth
    and I got engaged!

15
Once Lost, Now Found
  • So, Ive got lots to look forward to
  • A fulfilling career
  • An August 2007 wedding
  • And lots of adventures!
