HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Ain Shams University as the third Egyptian
university was founded in July 1950 under the
name of Ibrahim Pasha University, it participated
with the two earlier universities, Cairo
University and Alexandria University (then called
Fuad I and Farouk I, respectively) in fulfilling
the message of universities and meeting the
increasing demand of youth for higher education.
When it was first established, Ain Shams
University comprised a number of distinguished
academic institutes which were later developed
into university colleges.
The University is now located in the area of the
Zaafaran Palace, built during the reign of
khedive Ismail. The Palace was so named because
the area surrounding it was famous for saffron
(in Arabic Zaafaran) plantations build on an area
of one feddan, the Palace consists of three
floors.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Ain Shams University Comprises seven campuses,
all are sited in Cairo City. The University
administration, faculties of Arts, law and
Science are all located in the main campus,
El-Khalifa-El-Mamoon street, Abassia. The
Faculties of Commerce, Al Alson (Languages),
Pharmacy, Dentistry, Institutes of Childhood and
Environmental studies, together with the
specialized hospital are located on the second
campus on the other side of the above mentioned
street. Faculties of Medicine and Nursing
together with the University Hospitals are
located in another campus in Abassia.

  • The studying period
  • The studying period in the Faculty is four
    academic years divided into eight semesters.
  • First and second academic year are deveoted by
    basic agriculture, while students specialize in
    third and fourth academic years.
  • Students who pass the 3rd year exams must do
    summer training course in their major for at
    least one month.

1- The Agricultural Studies and Consultation
Center (ASCC)
  • The center is an independent, financially
    self-supported unit. The ASCC is governed by a
    Board of directors chaired by the dean of the
    Faculty.
  • The Board is responsible for developing policy
    and proper operation of the Center and for
    approval of all its projects

I-Objectives The Center aims at i- Conducting
research and studies and offering scientific
consultation to organizations and individuals in
areas of agricultural production, food
industries, and land reclamation. ii- Technical

Extension and Training Station, at Shalakan
i- A farm for practical agricultural teaching,
training and research, totaling 200 fed. (about
84 ha.). ii- Includes cultivated land (field and
horticultural crops, are irrigated with modern
and modified systems), cattle, poultry, sheep,
goats, stores, greenhouses, beekeeping units,
repair and maintenance workshops.

The Faculty has established several scientific
and educational relationships of mutual benefits

France, Germany, Poland and many Arab countries.
The programs of cooperation have been agreed upon
to take the following forms i- Exchange of
staff-members to develop scientific and teaching
experiences and participation in conferences,
symposia, and workshops. ii- Exchange of young
faculty members and specialists to develop
scientific relationships.
