11Value of EMBASE.com over PubMed
- Especially when doing drug searches you might
find articles in EMBASE.com that you wont find
in PubMed. - Even though these articles sometimes are in
PubMed! - But due to EMBASE unique coverage of 1,800
journals, it also contains a lot of unique
material.
12EMBASE.com value over PubMed
- Neurocrine Biosciences has a new compound in
development, Tiplimotide, for potential
intravenous treatment of multiple sclerosis. - By April 2005, enrollment for phase II trials was
complete, with results expected early in 2006 - This potential new drug was added last year to
EMBASE thesaurus EMTREE. - It is not yet in MEDLINEs thesaurus Mesh.
Lets see what we find when we search EMBASE with
the term Tiplimotide
13Tiplimotide is part of EMTREE, the EMBASE
thesaurus and 11 search results can be found in
EMBASE for this term. What happens when we do the
same search in PubMed?
14The term tiplimotide was not found in Mesh,
Medlines thesaurus
15which means that no results can be found when
searching PubMed with this term! In fact of the
11 records found in EMBASE, 9 are also in MEDLINE
but can not be found!
16The drug Tiplimotide is not in MeSH. No results
can be found when searching MEDLINE with this
term. However, some of the records that we find
in EMBASE for this drug are actually in MEDLINE
(see next slide)! This demonstrates that you can
find articles in EMBASE that you can not find in
MEDLINE due to the superior indexing of drugs!
17This is one of the 11 records that we found in
EMBASE when we searched for Tiplimotide Here you
see that it is also in MEDLINE but can not be
found because it has not been indexed with this
term!
