Land

• Lots of deserts! (kums)
• A few mountains, plateaus, steppes
• Only lush areas are near the Mediterranean Sea
  more rain
• Scrub brush common

• Salt water? Lots! Important for trade and other
  economic activities
• Some areas known for resources oil
• Fresh water is rare not enough rivers/lakes
  little arable land
• Have to find ways to get fresh water
• Desalination plants
• Dams divert water for farming

• Dry, dry, and some dry
• Arid is most common, followed by semi-arid
• Mediterranean coast is nice moderate climate
• Small areas of humid subtropical, humid
  continental and highland

So what do people do for a living?

• If you live near a coast you have many options
• Fish
• Farm
• Trade/travel industry
• Mine resources from the sea (Persian Gulf)
• Tourism

And if you dont live near a coast?

• Nomadic herding
• Livestock farming
• Some cities (industry and business) but not that
  many
• Much harder lifestyle

Resources

• Most valuable petroleum
• Sell for big profit
• This region uses little for itself
• Gives many countries power (Iraq Saddam
  Hussein)
• Rich governments no taxes, free health care,
  free education (college too!)
• Not all countries have oil

Other resources

• Some gems and minerals
• Rivers are really important because of water
  scarcity
• Turkey has created issues with those downstream
  by creating dams

Central Asia

• The stans (meaning land) have struggled since
  being free from the Soviet Union
• Not enough resources to make it on their own
• Getting better but still have issues, like the
  Aral Sea

• Dead Sea worlds saltiest body of water, lowest
  point on earth not covered by an ocean, can float
  with no problem
• Caspian Sea largest inland body of water,
  called a sea because it is salt water, good
  fishing
• Black Sea warm body of water, popular vacation
  spot
