Reinforcement
  • The use of rewards and punishments that increase
    or decrease that likelihood of a similar response
    or behavior occurring in the future.
  • Although some coaches still use threats of
    punishment as their primary motivational tool, a
    positive approach is recommended for working with
    athletes.

  • Be consistent
