2Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United
States issued an Emancipation Proclamation in
1863 which FREED slaves living in America.
3HOWEVER
- Despite this Proclamation black people in
America up to this day are still suffering from
racism.
4- Black people faced the following discrimination
- They could not vote
- They were not allowed to have good jobs or a good
education - They were SEGREGATED.
- Black children had to go to different schools,
use different public toilets, could not sit
together on buses or in restaurants.

World War, many still did not achieve equal rights

for the black peoples of America

people which was sometimes violent and at worst

- They were against civil rights for black people.
- They were against Jews and Catholics.

- Klansmen burned large crosses on hillsides and
near the homes of people they wanted to frighten.
- Klan victims were often kidnapped, whipped,
mutilated or murdered.
