Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United
States issued an Emancipation Proclamation in
1863 which FREED slaves living in America.

HOWEVER

• Despite this Proclamation black people in
  America up to this day are still suffering from
  racism.

• Black people faced the following discrimination
• They could not vote
• They were not allowed to have good jobs or a good
  education
• They were SEGREGATED.
• Black children had to go to different schools,
  use different public toilets, could not sit
  together on buses or in restaurants.

• All members had to be native-born Americans
• White, Protestant males, 16yrs or older.

• Black Americans were inferior human beings.
• They were against civil rights for black people.
• They were against Jews and Catholics.

• Klansmen burned large crosses on hillsides and
  near the homes of people they wanted to frighten.
  
• Klan victims were often kidnapped, whipped,
  mutilated or murdered.
