Title: Love
1Love
2Preparation for Heaven
For physical training is of some value, but
godliness has value for all things, holding
promise for both the present life and the life to
come. 1 Timothy 48
3The two are connected
" 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your mind. This
is the first and greatest commandment. And the
second is like it 'Love your neighbor as
yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on
these two commandments. Matthew 2237-40
4Love our brothers
This is how we know what love is Jesus Christ
laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay
down our lives for our brothers. 1 John 316
5Many parts, one body
Now the body is not made up of one part but of
many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a
hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not
for that reason cease to be part of the body. And
if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye,
I do not belong to the body," it would not for
that reason cease to be part of the body. If the
whole body were an eye, where would the sense of
hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where
would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has
arranged the parts in the body, every one of
them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were
all one part, where would the body be? As it is,
there are many parts, but one body. 1 Corinthians
1214-19
6Taking care of family
But if a widow has children or grandchildren,
these should learn first of all to put their
religion into practice by caring for their own
family and so repaying their parents and
grandparents, for this is pleasing to God. 1
Timothy 54
7Taking care of church family
Take care of any widow who has no one else to
care for her. 1 Timothy 53
8Has the church failed?
There is one body and one Spiritjust as you were
called to one hope when you were called one
Lord, one faith, one baptism one God and Father
of all, who is over all and through all and in
all. Ephesians 4.4-6
9Relational Unity
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to
live a life worthy of the calling you have
received. Be completely humble and gentle be
patient, bearing with one another in love. Make
every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace. Ephesians 41-3
10What is love?
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay
down his life for his friends. John 1513
11Putting others first
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain
conceit, but in humility consider others better
than yourselves. Philippians 23
12Submission
Submit to one another out of reverence for
Christ. Ephesians 521
13Love is necessary
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or
a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy
and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I
possess to the poor and surrender my body to the
flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1
Corinthians 131-3
