Mission

• The main mission of Bethel is to provide foster
  care, education and professional training for
  Chinese orphans who are blind or visually
  impaired in a home-like environment.
• The projects training center, named The Love is
  Blind Project, is located on a 17-acre property,
  near a small village outside Beijing.

Founders

• Guillaume and Delphine Gauvain are French
  citizens. They studied in the USA. After having
  worked several years in a project which served
  youth, drug addicts and prisoners in Canada, they
  moved to Asia.
• Being pioneers at heart, they looked for a
  people group who was not being helped. Thus, they
  decided to orientate their project around the
  needs of blind Chinese orphans and founded Bethel
  in 2002.

Love is Blind

• The Project in its current location offers
  services for up to 70 children and includes
• these aspects
• Foster Care seven separate houses where we
  strive to create a family atmosphere, providing
  24-hour care for our children.
• Education our school offers classes in English
  and Chinese Braille, Conversational English,
  Chinese, Mathematics, Science, Orientation and
  Mobility, Daily Living Skills, Physical
  Education, Social Studies
• Professional training in farming, gardening,
  language translation, piano tuning

Love is Blind

• We place great importance on providing a variety
  of exciting
• activities for the children, including sports,
  arts and crafts,
• field trips, music and entertainment, all of
  which are especially
• designed for the blind and visually impaired.
• The following items are available for our
  children on site

• Workout room with exercise machines
• Pony rides
• Mini farm
• Tandem bicycles

Farming

• In addition to providing quality care and
  education for blind orphans, the Project
  envisions the development of a community that is
  self-sustaining and respectful of the
  environment. We are currently producing our own
  eggs, fruits and vegetables, as well as raising
  chickens, goats and cows. Our use of the
  raised-bed gardening method, allows our visually
  impaired students to work independently in the
  garden.

How you can help

• Sponsorship
• Bethel operates solely on the basis of donations.
  The sponsorship program represents for us a
• regular financial contribution, given on a middle
  or long term basis (one year minimum).
• Sponsor a child 40 USD/month (30 Euros/month)
• Sponsor a student 65 USD/month (50
  Euros/month)
• In order to follow the child's growing in his
  daily life, the sponsor receives
• A quarterly newsletter through email This letter
  contains some recent pictures of the child as
  well as a short description of his last progress
  or activities that help the sponsor to know the
  child better and see him growing.
• The possibility to communicate with the child We
  translate and read your letter to the child. If
  the child is able to answer, you will receive his
  answer. You can also visit the child at Bethel.

• Volunteer tourism Come to Bethel for your
  holiday!
• Come to visit the splendid city of Beijing and
  see famous sites like the Great Wall,
• The Forbidden City, the Silk Market and so much
  more. At the same time, help
• Bethel at the foster homes, on the farm, and
  participate in the kids activities.

  occupational therapists, music teachers and
  special education teachers).
