Recent reports have accused many professional
athletes of using steroids. People believe that
the players have been using steroids to increase
their ability.

Roger Maris
Baseball Records stood for many years. One record
that stood for years was the single season
homerun record. Roger Maris hit 61 homeruns in
1961.

Homerun Records Fall
Then in 1998, with no player hitting more than 58
in one year between '61 and '97, Mark McGwire hit
70 and Sammy Sosa 66. In 2002, Barry Bonds
finished with 73 home runs.

Ken Caminiti, the 1996 NL MVP, told Sports
Illustrated he took steroids and said at least
half of major leaguers use them.

President Bush Demands Athletes to Stop Using
Steroids
President Bush stated, The use of
performance-enhancing drugs like steroids in
baseball, football, and other sports is
dangerous, and it sends the wrong message. So
tonight I call on team owners, union
representatives, coaches, and players to take the
lead, to send the right signal, to get tough, and
to get rid of steroids now.

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig told SI, "We need
to test. I believe it's in the best interest of
the players long term. I feel very strongly about
that."

Athletes Need To Agree To Testing
Professional athletes need to step up to the
plate and start getting tested for steroids. It
needs to be done for the good of all of the
sports.
