2004-05 Immigrants - Yesterday and Today
2- Immigrants Yesterday and Today was a special
thematic unit studied by this group. - The class researched the four main periods or
waves of immigration. - Students learned what it was like to be an
immigrant kid living in the period of peak
immigration around the early 1900s. - PowerPoint presentations and special posters were
completed to be submitted to the Collinsville
Public Library.
3Reference materials were used by students.
Resources available included books, maps, globes,
computer generated materials, and websites to
research facts about immigration.
4Austin and Xavier worked as a team to complete a
PowerPoint slide. They copied and pasted images
to represent their wave of immigration.
5Meagan, Billy, and Cathy made finishing touches
to a PowerPoint slide about Immigrant Kids.
6The class discussed how to classify key facts
learned about an immigrant childs life
Immigrant kids at home, work, play, or school.
7Cathy and A.J. add facts they gathered to the
chart about immigrant kids. Their group
researched the lives of immigrant kids at play.
8Students answered questions and gathered facts
about the 4 periods or waves of immigration.
Students used post-it notes to record the years
of each wave, where were people came from to
settle in America, why people immigrated, and the
lifestyle of immigrants when they arrived in
their new home.
