Issues for Retail Deployment
  • Economics (Scalability)
  • OCAP components (HE, Hosts, Cable Card, apps, et
al) are not mature yet it requires time to reach
    full deployment
  • Challenge to promote iDCRs with national
    accounts regional marketing required
  • Tech support MSO and CHILA company CSRs
  • Consumer Behavior (Leased vs. Buy Value
    Proposition)
  • Consumers are accustomed to leasing cable CPE
  • It poses serious challenge to justify premium
  • Needs right SKU selection
  • Too many flat panel TV SKUs may confuse consumers
  • Moving OCAP platform to flat panel is not simple
  • Applications (OCAP Promise)
  • Programmers and other 3rd party developers are
waiting for significant footprint before building
    OCAP apps

10
Open Discussion Next Steps
  • Solve business and technical challenges to build
    iDCR HD DVRs ASAP
  • Expedite common OCAP platform deployment across
    MSOs
  • Manage the transition to DCAS Hosts
  • Joint consumer research to clarify interest in
    iDCR
  • Co-market to reduce the iDCR cost adder to
    consumers
  • Leverage MSO regional and direct marketing
    experience
  • Foster robust and profitable 3rd party OCAP
    application developer environment
  • Cost effective software download path for iDCRs
