    complex emergencies, mobile populations ..etc

  • Establish new partnerships, through
    strengthening existing ones and improving
    coordination between partners, for regional
    initiatives to increase case-detection
  • Increase and coordinate technical and financial
    resources to support countries in implementing
    country TB plans through close collaboration with
    the National TB Programme and the nation
    partnerships

  • Create a greater public and political commitment
    and investment in Stop TB addressing the gaps in
    implementing the regional plan to Stop TB,
    towards a sustainable and constant flow of
    resources from within and outside the region
  • Enhance public awareness and understanding of
    TB, its burden, prevention and management
  • Develop innovative donation mechanisms that will
    be of direct benefit to TB patients and their
    families..

Together with the countries in the Region, the
WHO Regional Office has responded to the need and
has established the Preparatory Committee for
the EM Partnership to Stop TB who held their
first meeting in Cairo, Egypt, 10 January 2007

PREP COMMITTEE recommendations framework doc.
  • One of the urgent recommendations of the prep.
    committee was to develop a framework document
    that defines structure, membership and mode of
    operation of the EM Partnership.
  • Framework document was developed with the
    assistance of Ms P. Heiktman and was sent out for
    comments and feedback to Preparatory committee
    members, STAG, NTPs and Global Stop TB
    partnership secretariat.
  • Comments were incorporated and the revised draft
    is in your files

  • Functional national partnerships in all countries
    of the Region by 2008
  • Case-detection of 80 by 2010
  • Sustainable financing to meet the needed US 3
    billion to Stop TB in the Region by 2015
  • Additional funding from additional sources
  • Regional political commitment to Stop TB

  • Finalization of the framework
  • Endorsement of the ministers of Health during
    the RC (October 2007).
  • Development of a detailed plan of action
