Title: The Poetry Cafe
1The Poetry Cafe
- Welcome to the 1015 show!
2Welcome to the Poetry Café! Wed like to
describe the process, what steps we took to
create our poems First, our teachers read poems
to us which inspired us to write in our
notebooks. From the notebooks came seeds ideas
which grew into first poems. Then we wrote
drafts, sometimes three versions, of the poems,
adding shape, imagery, leads, etc. We conferred
with other poets and our teachers, then changed
the poems on each draft.
3We gathered information on our poems, read other
poets, then made some more changes. We then
edited it for grammar, punctuation and spelling
with other poets in the class and our
teachers. Onto Kid Pix where we drew pictures to
border the poems. Our teachers placed the poems
in our frames. We practiced and practiced
reading the poems. Now were ready to share our
poems. We hope you enjoy the café.
4Poetry What is poetry? Who knows? Not a rose, but
the scent of a rose Not the sky, but the light
of the sky Not the fly, but the gleam of the
fly Not the sea, but the sound of the sea Not
myself, but what makes me.
5 See, hear, and feel something that
prose Cannot and what it is, who knows? By
Eleanor Farjeon
6Strawberry A strawberry is red tastes sweet and
sour. Strawberry is a healthy fruit, just like
other fruits. Strawberry milk, strawberry juice
and strawberry jam all made from
strawberries. Strawberry stems are green And
soft like some Other leaves. Pick it gently like

7Do not eat the stems Eat the bottom That is the
red, red part. The bumpy part on the
bottom. They cant stand always falling
down Like a domino knocking into each other. It
is good with Whipped cream This is the fruit that
I want. A strawberry is red tastes sweet and
sour. By Christopher K.

25Feelings When I am mad I am a volcano Steaming
gas out of my ears My eyes are flames, Flaming
like fiery lava And my body heated with gas.
26 When I am sad I am a cloud Pouring rain out of
my eyes. My eyes are soaked, As soaked as the
whirling ocean And my body shivers.
27When I am happy I am a sun Shining a face with
happiness My mouth is wide, As wide as the whole
universe And my eyebrows smile. But all these
feelings only Only last for a short time.

Moon, Look into my Heart.
Is there Anything you can Change?

43The Dark Side of Snow I wake up, frightened, of
my dream. I look out my window and see, that
glistening white beast has returned, with an army
of silver soldiers Pale ghosts haunting my
yard, ships made of ice, invading, landing and
vanishing. I hear creaking on my steps, I
hide. Its my mom asking if I want to play in
the snow. I stood silent, I had no answer.
