BaseBand InterChange Format (ICF)

• ATT initiated the development of a CEOS
  recommendation for a standard BaseBand Archive
  ICF
• Goal is to develop a format which can be
  effectively used as gateway to/from the archive
  internal format
• Accent is on the exchange of the archived
  BaseBand data

BaseBand InterChange Format (ICF)

• The ICF would be endorsed by CEOS WGISS and the
  member agencies, and published as CEOS
  recommendation
• Though recommended, each member agency will be
  free to choose to support the ICF for the
  BaseBand data exchange

• Proposed WPs for the ICF development
• analysis of most popular current archive formats,
  in order to assess the exchange potential
• generation and editing of the ICF document
• development of an ICF demo translator SW to
  import/export the ICF to other selected archive
  formats

• Contract placed by ESA with Gael Consultant, an
  independent French based company with specific
  experience in EO data formats
• WP1 completed, Formats Analysis Technical Note
  issued

ICF Preliminary concepts

• The ICF metadata will be expressed in ASCII
  format. Phase 2 will explore the possibility to
  use XML
• the DED will try to re-use existing standards
• Digital Geospatial Metadata extensions for Remote
  Sensing Metadata
• Sensor Description Format for EO Dynamic Sensors
• Support for multiple physical volumes

ICF Preliminary concepts

• Exchange over electronic link, real-time
  reconstruction of data
• ICF should allow adding optional information like
  data, exchange reports, data history reports,
  format description, etc.

• DEDSL-XML to build the ICF DED
• EAST to describe the ICF format
• OAIS gives vocabulary inspiration
