14LEARNING JOURNAL
- A learning journal is a repository for an
individuals observations, reactions, notes,
impressions, questions, and disagreements. - In short, it is a place for recording ones
learning while in the process of learning. - It is also the place (the activity or process)
where learning is enhanced through intentional
reflection, through exploration and elaboration,
through connection-finding and meaning making. - This process vastly improved through writing,
as opposed to simply thinking passively is
where relationships between the learning and
experience are fostered. - This is where learning is made real.

15SEMESTER PAPER
- Learning is a lifelong journey, and writing a
semester paper is but one stop along the way. In
the end, those who choose the more challenging
path will reap the greater reward. - The semester paper is meant to foster critical
thinking and insightful analysis of experimental
data and methodology, as well as allowing
students to learn about the present state of
knowledge in a particular area of biochemical
research. In addition, the semester paper will
help to strengthen writing skills. Another
important aspect of the semester paper is that it
will allow students to demonstrate their
abilities in hypothesis generation, in
experimental design, and in the formulation of
new studies.
Think of a topic related to IRM that is of
interest to you.
