Introduction

• To create a digital information environment which
  will offer equitable and easy-to-use access to a
  core set of information resources (Information
  for all)
• Project focuses on electronic content, building
  upon librarians' traditional strengths
• Project seeks to provide information resources to
  all libraries
• Many public private companies must be involve
• The 1st phase implemented as a pilot study with a
  limited budget for
• Databases
• Computer hardware and software
• Research and development for a common user
  interface
• Enhancement of state-wide resource sharing
  mechanisms
• Document delivery services

Method of implementation HIC

• Changing the closed system libraries to open
  systems
• Installation of library software in all medical
  libraries specially the central libraries
• Designing a website for each libraries and
  connect the library data to web
• Establishing at least 256 kb/s internet
  connection for each library
• Improving the quality and quantity of the
  electronic data sources parallel to purchasing
  paper based resources

• Upgrading the computers and network hardware and
  software.
• Improving the quality of service to end-users in
  libraries by training the librarians and users
• 36 central medical library have been changed to
  Health Information Centers

• Online databases, the core of the project
• Each library have a database which including the
  bibliographic information of resources
• Contract with private company for designing a
  package
• Every library with online access to current
  information of others

• Ariel Software
• Choosing 3 medical libraries in the country with
  criteria
• Fill the questionnaire of Medical Library
  Directory Form EMLIBNet
• Sent the Inter-Library and Document Delivery
  Agreement of each medical library to EMRO
• The list of journals holdings in MS Excel sheet
  have been sent to EMRO according to the
  specifications of the Union List Database

Method of implementation user interface

• Same interface for all users with different OS
• ANSI standards establish a common set of
  protocols for information requests and retrievals
  and will form the basis for developing a common
  user interface
• Local libraries will have 2 options using this
  interface or using the native interface provided
  by the database provider
