3
I. Abraham Obeyed Gods Call To Lead His
Family
  • Led his family out of idolatry
  • Gen. 1131-124 Acts 72-4 Josh. 242-3
  • Fathers must take full responsibility for leading
    their families to heaven.
  • Gen. 1819

4
Genesis 1819
  • For I have known him, in order that he may
command his children and his household after him,
that they keep the way of the Lord, to do
righteousness and justice, that the Lord may
bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.

II. Abraham Lived As A Pilgrim In A Foreign
Land
  • Heb 118 not knowing where he was going
  • Heb 119 dwelt in tents
  • Heb 1110 waited for the city
  • Heb 1113-16 desire a better country

6
Hebrews 118-10
  • By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go
out to the place which he would receive as an
inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where
    he was going.
  • By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a
foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and
Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise
  • for he waited for the city which has foundations,
whose builder and maker is God.

7
Hebrews 1113-16
  • These all died in faith, not having received the
promises, but having seen them afar off were
assured of them, embraced them and confessed that
they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
  • For those who say such things declare plainly
    that they seek a homeland.

8
Hebrews 1113-16
  • And truly if they had called to mind that country
from which they had come out, they would have had
    opportunity to return.
  • But now they desire a better, that is, a
heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to
be called their God, for He has prepared a city
    for them.

III. Abraham Trusted Gods Promises
  • Gen 1715-18 Abraham laughed (Rom. 416-22)
  • Gen 189-15 Sarah laughed (Heb. 1111-12)
  • God understands our momentary doubts
  • Is anything too difficult for the Lord?
  • If God says something, it is so. If God says He
will take care of us, He will. If God says He
has prepared a place for us, He has. If God says
He will punish the unbeliever, He will.
