• A snapshot sampling is when several sites
  throughout a geographic area, such as a watershed
  or county, are sampled within a short period of
  time (e.g., three hours). A snapshot provides a
  picture of water quality at one point in time.
  Snapshot samplings can be completed
• To increase public awareness and involve the
  local community in water quality issues
• To collect baseline data for a geographic area or
  watershed
• As a screening tool for identifying hot spots
  or streams that may contribute elevated
  concentrations of nitrate or other parameters of
  interest
• Using a variety of testing methods, including
  both field and lab methods
• For parameters of interest (i.e., sediment,
  nutrients)
• Using a combination of physical, chemical, and
  biological parameters, as well as observations
  about a stream condition
• During different times of the year or different
  flow conditions (e.g., low flow sampling during
  the fall may allow identification of septic
  system inputs that otherwise would not be as
  apparent under higher flow conditions)
• AND are successful when locally initiated and
  involving partnerships

• But dont fret you ol creeks, we are learning.
  A small group of people entered your waters on
  the 20th of September and we are going to be
  back. Next Spring we will once again invade your
  waters with our students, teachers, children and
  other volunteers to learn about your waters. We
  will return with improved skills, more
  volunteers, knowledge based on our last
  experience and more questions.
