Throw away facts
  • Real nappies are good for the environment
  • - The UK throws away around 3 billion disposable
    nappies every year (MINTEL)5
  • - 8 million a day mostly go to landfill (IWM)6
and may take years to break down

6
Throw away facts
  • Real nappies are good for your pocket
  • - Home washing costs are low from as little
    as 1 per week
  • - Local authorities can save thousands of
    pounds by reducing landfill costs

7
Throw away facts
  • Disposal costs
  • Bristol City Council calculated its nappy
disposal costs to be 500,000 in 2003
  • Kent, Northamptonshire and Essex Councils
estimate that dealing with nappy waste costs them
    over 1 million per year
  • Gloucestershire believes its nappy disposal costs
    to be 300,000 per year

8

Commitment to choice

    years

    and individual projects

waste from landfill by April 2006

    traditional terry nappy
  • easy to fasten with velcro, poppers or grips
  • They leak
  • theres a wide choice - choose the right size to
    fit snugly
  • They lead to nappy rash
  • Nappy rash is mostly triggered by the irritating
effect of babys urine and bowel motions, and
causes some of the skin covered by the nappy to
    appear red and inflamed
  • Baby is no more or less likely to get nappy rash
    with real nappies

  • They are expensive
  • an initial outlay to equip you with a number of
nappies is necessary but this one-off payment
means you are not regularly shelling out on
    disposables
  • on average costs are
