- The Road Authority (TRA) is delivered to Ontario
Municipalities as key member service by the
Ontario Good Roads Association - TRA represents and operates as a public and
private partnership - TRA is an Internet-based information resource
that provides a mechanism for infrastructure
owners, consultants, contractors and product
suppliers to collaborate and share information - TRA provides users with information on products,
services and technical solutions available for
use in the public works sector

- WHAT IS IT REALLY?
- Web based database for products used for roads,
bridges and public works - Enables suppliers and manufacturers to list their
product information - Shows product classification given by the Ontario
Provincial Standards - Products Management
Committee (OPS-PMC) - Enables M.T.O. to maintain Designated Sources of
Material (DSM) lists - Enables municipalities to maintain Municipal
Product Lists (MPLs) through Municipal Product
Interfaces (MPIs)

- HOW DOES IT WORK?
- Companies wishing to profile their products
and/or services in the database register with TRA - Companies can also request the Ontario Provincial
Standards - Product Management Committee
(OPS-PMC) and participating municipalities to
review their product for acceptance - Companies use TRAs Workbench Technology to
maintain in real time, their corporate, product
and service information

- WHY DOES IT WORK?
- Product manufacturers and suppliers receive
direct exposure to their market place - Classification by OPS-PMC provides value-added
information to users regarding the use and
application of products and/or services and a
recognition of compliance with standards - Municipalities with limited resources can
immediately take advantage of the technical
expertise provided by the OPS-PMC

- The objective of The Road Authority is to
maintain an information portal for the public
works sector by providing an electronic gateway
that allows users to - Source products, services and technical solutions
- Gather public works related information
- Access expertise from participating members
including the Ontario Provincial Standards and
other infrastructure owners - Review current standards
- Participate in discussion forums
- Submit products for review and classification
- Promote collaboration amongst infrastructure
owners

- MEMBER SERVICE BENEFITS
- Through Workbench Technology, members may request
access to the TRA database system through a
Municipal Private Interface (MPI), essentially a
private doorway to information that can be
specific to your municipality - The MPI allows a municipality to manage
information by - Manipulating its own products and services lists
- Providing a tracking mechanism to manage product
approvals and the work flow related to product
information management - key features that are critical in a fast-paced
municipal environment where information is
changing frequently

- Recognize the Ministry of Transportation and
Regional Municipality of Durham for mandating
companies to register themselves and their
products with TRA - Further recognize the Regional Municipality of
Durham in using their MPI to manage and publish

- We are currently implementing our MPI to
- Managing our municipal products list
- Formalize the methodology and workflow for a new
products review and approval process - Through the TRA User Group, we are taking the
next step in fulfilling the objectives of the TRA - Vaughan tasks
- Council resolution endorsing TRA and our
MPI complete - Set up a virtual Vaughan Products Management
Committee complete - Consists of a coordinator and technical members
- Formalize an approved products list for
publishing on MPI 80 complete - Enable the MPI to conduct the business of
Products Management 80 complete - Products Management technology, process and
workflow is borrowed from the OPS-PMC

- PROCESS OVERVIEW
- Company registers with TRA, electronically the
company can instantly request OPS and
participating municipalities to classify their
product or service - Through the MPI
- Vaughan Coordinator creates an agenda for members
to review - Vaughan Technical members review a prepared
application for each product on the agenda - Vaughan Technical members note their comment
- Committee, by consensus, determine if the product
is accepted - Update our municipal products list accordingly
