Working Method

• Compilation of the information
• Search for projects which have several cruises
• Search for projects which have identified
  database(s)
• Search for institutes projects/programs on the
  web
• Loading in the IFREMER/SISMER database
• Editing on the web EDMERP format
• Transfer of information via Marine XML to MARIS

Results

• 98 projects reported over 113 identified in the
  database (14 historical projects will neither be
  updated nor assigned an ID for transfer)
• in 49 laboratories
• however it remains some work to do
• editor work on the compiled forms
• more forms to compile

Difficulties met and answers made or in process

• Definition of projects
• Granularity and perimeters of the
  projects/programs
• big projects like PNEC with big sub-projects
• merging of projects
• action in general programs rather than projects
• Fast changes
• Restructurations of the institutes (ex IFREMER)
• action wait and see, focus on projects that have
  cruises and/or databases
• Rotating leadership
• The leader laboratory is the laboratory of the
  leader
• possiblity of duplicate ID when the leadership
  changes
• Imbrication with other countries
• ex IFM/Kiel, Barcelona
• action ID assigned not taken into account the
  laboratory and foreign responsible to be changed?

Technical issues

• Time period and Continuity
• year to year instead of accurate date
• Compatibilities with the more simple IFREMER
  catalogue system
• many fields missing  PRJ  table but most of the
  mandatory information is searchable in related
  fields of other tables
• coherence with cruises/databases investigated
  regions and collected parameters
• action finish the search for regional limit when
  it exist a database and no cruise
• Information only available in French in many
  cases
• actions
• double the textual fields in the database to
  handle the bilinguism
• translate or subcontract the traslation when
  possible (difficult to finish for the deadline)

Conclusion

• this first EDMERP release is significant if not
  complete
• a key point is that the forms include at least
  ones web address of the main institutes project
  pages, where information can be found
• inter-operability would be preferable, because of
  continuous changes, which are faster than the
  capacity of regular transfer of the updates
