• The most widely accepted identity of the model is
  Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo.
• She is the wife of a wealthy Florentine merchant
  and government official.

Act IIIOther Theories

• Dr. Lilian Schwarts of Bell Labs
• suggest the Mona Lisa is a self portrait of
  Leonardo da Vinci.
• When merging the facial images of Leonardos self
  portrait with the Mona Lisa, the faces align
  perfectly.
• Critiques claim the match is due to the same
  person using the same style in both portraits.

• Maike Vogt-Luerssen believes the portrait is
  Isabella of Aragon, the Duchess of Milan.
• Leonardo was the court painter for the Duke of
  Milan for 11 years. He suggests that the Mona
  Lisa was the first official portrait of the
  duchess.

• Officially, Mona Lisa is known as La Gioconda
  which points to the prevailing theory that she
  was the wife of Francisco del Giocondo.
• Regardless, Leonardo da Vinci has captured the
  attention of the world with the portrait of the
  veiled woman and her mysterious smile.
