3Cost of Interpersonal Violence in the U.S.
- Exceeds 300 Billion dollars annually This is a
non valued drain on the economy. - Proposed budget for the DoPN is 10 Billion
dollars. - 3-4 reduction in violence (10 Billion) pays
entire yearly cost of operating the Department.
We cant afford not to do something.
4Is this just another anti-war Campaign?
- It is NOT an anti war campaign.
- It is not about getting out of Iraq.

Americans.

6Comments from the Mayor and Council(Notes added
after the presentation to the Council)
- Mayor Pye had been briefed on the Department of
Peace and Nonviolence legislation on several
occasion prior to the City Council presentation
so he was familiar with the idea. The Mayor
turned out to an eloquent spokesperson for the
DoPN. He indicated that had contacted a number
of Mayors in cities that had already endorsed
this legislation and found nothing but positive
feedback. He indicated that several Mayors had
asked him, Whats the down side to endorsing
the resolution. They had not found any. - Rick Dindinger As a Federalist, I dont think
this even belongs on the agenda. This is a
Federal matter that we shouldnt even be
discussing.. Rick was concerned that we
(Centennial) dont want to be the laughing
stock of the nation like Boulder when they voted
to (withdraw troops from Iraq?) - Sue Bosier As a taxpayer I dont want to pay
for another layer of government. (This is a
commonly held perspective) - Vorry Moon In reference to the Peace academy,
Will the graduates of the Academy be
uniformed? - a great question that we hadnt
heard anyone bring up before this question
should result in some interesting discussions. - Rebecca McClellan Please elaborate on the Model
city mentioned in your handout. - Todd Miller As a point of clarification, it is
correct that any action/endorsement by the
council will require a super majority (2/3 or ¾
vote?)
