Title: ENGLAND ATTRACTIONS MONITOR
1ENGLAND ATTRACTIONS MONITOR
- Quarter 3 2008 (July to September 2008)
- North West regional report
2Introduction
- In January 2006, VisitBritain launched the
England Attractions Monitor, an online panel to
help provide the attractions industry with rapid
feedback on current trends in visits to
attractions in England - Survey was enhanced in 2007 to incorporate not
only recent visit trends but also questions
relating to business confidence for the
forthcoming quarter - In 2008, the survey was further enhanced with the
inclusion of a hot topic question, added each
quarter, asking attractions to provide their
views on the latest topical issues affecting the
industry. Reflecting the significance of the
current global economic slowdown Q2 and Q3 have
asked attractions what impact, if any, the credit
crunch will have on their attraction - The following charts examine the results for the
third quarter of 2008 (July-September) in the
North West region
3Methodology
- Objective for 2008 to create national panel of
c.500 attractions comprising - c.200 individual attractions recruited online
and by telephone (c.20-25 per England region) - c.300 English Heritage/National Trust properties
(with visit data provided centrally) - The North West region have boosted the sample
size within their region to enable analysis of
results in greater detail in Quarter 3 - A total of 89 attractions in the North West (22
EH/NT and 67 other) - Visit figures were also provided by both
Merseyside Chester and Cheshire tourist boards - National panel size over time
- Quarter 3 (Jul to Sep 2008) 504 attractions
- Quarter 2 (Apr to Jun 2008) 500 attractions
- Quarter 1 (Jan to Mar 2008) 516 attractions
- Inevitably, across the year some attractions will
join the panel whilst others drop out.
Comparisons will always be made among constant
samples where appropriate
