• Adult, child and infant

Signals of Troubled BreathingAdult

• Noisy or painful breathing
• Unusually deep or shallow breathing
• Changes in skin color

Conscious Choking

• Universal Sign of Choking- clutching of the
  throat
• If the victim is conscious and cannot cough,
  assume the airway is blocked.

• Encourage someone to continue to cough

5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts (until the
object comes out or victim passes out)

• 1- Get consent from the victim.
• 2- give 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts

• If you are alone when choking, lean over a firm
  object, like the back of a chair and press your
  stomach against it.

• Still call 9-1-1 even if the object comes out
  (there is a chance that tissue in the airway may
  swell)
• If the victim is too large to reach around the
  abdomen, give chest thrusts (same technique but
  on the breastbone)

• 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts with the baby
  across your thigh
• Using gravity to try and dislodge the object

• How can you tell an infant is choking?
• looked panicked and are not able to cry, cough
  or breathe.
• A breathing emergency is signaled by a wheezing
  or high pitched sound
