Conscious Choking
  • Universal Sign of Choking- clutching of the
    throat
  • If the victim is conscious and cannot cough,
    assume the airway is blocked.

  • If you are alone when choking, lean over a firm
    object, like the back of a chair and press your
    stomach against it.

    (there is a chance that tissue in the airway may

  • If the victim is too large to reach around the
    abdomen, give chest thrusts (same technique but
    on the breastbone)
