  • Branding
  • Digital dirt

4
Tell me
  • Have you ever felt like you apply and apply and
your resume goes into some black hole??

5
Black Hole Syndrome
  • The Internets greatest advantage
  • Your ability to apply to many more positions
quickly and efficiently (in your bathrobe)
  • The Internets greatest disadvantage
  • Your ability to apply to many more positions
quickly and efficiently (in your bathrobe)

6
Its a vicious cycle
  • While employers are drowning in a flood of
applications, they are also saying that there are
not enough qualified applicants to fill their
    positions.

7
Why is everything online?
The cost. Easier for recruiters and hiring
managers to sort by KEYWORD. Paper resumes only
get looked at once.

Some Dos and Donts
Dont take the shot gun approach. Dont apply
for lots of jobs at the same company, especially
on the same day. Do follow up in a traditional
manner. Either snail mail, phone call, personal
introduction. Do use our company profiles and
video profiles PLUS the companys site to
research before you apply for the position Take
the extra steps to ensure that your cover letter
and resume STAND out from the rest! Get feedback
on your resume from the career center, family,
professors and friends. Create accomplishment
statements using ACTION WORDS, not just a listing
of duties.
12

Jobs-by-Email Agents Tips for Success!
  • Limit the number of keywords try one or two for
    best results!
  • Create up to 10 Jobs-by-Email agents! Each agent
will come to you in one daily or weekly email,
separated by the title you have given to
    differentiate your search.
  • Focus your search further by entering a job
category. For example you would like a position
in a retail environment, select retail as your
job category. Choose as many categories as you
are interested in - and as few as you would like
    to keep your search focused.
  • Choose an employment type for your search.
Full-time, part-time, seasonal or temporary we
know that scheduling can be a critical factor in
determining the right job for you.
  • Choose your location. In some cases, you will be
able to further limit your search by area.
  • Indicate Salary Preferences. Keep in mind that
checking the box to show jobs with
    negotiable/unspecified rates will produce the
    highest number of results.
  • You can update your agents as your needs change.
