1st Kilometer September
  • Make an appointment with your counselor
  • Check applications and record priority deadlines
    on your calendar
  • Find out when your colleges are visiting Kennedy.
    Attend college rep meeting.
  • If you aspire to participate in Division I or II
    college athletics, register online with the NCAA
    Clearinghouse.

2nd Kilometer October
  • Verify which schools require teacher and
    counselor recommendations.
  • The Common Application requires 2 teacher
    recommendations and a counselor recommendation
  • Give copies of completed Letter of Recommendation
    form to your counselor and 2 teachers who agree
    to write recs for all your schools. Provide
    stamped, addressed envelopes.
  • Prepare drafts of your essays for adults to edit

  • During counseling meeting order transcripts from
    JFK Registrar.
  • Arrange for your test scores to be sent directly
    by ACT or College Board to each college.
  • Complete applications (online or paper)
  • Make photocopies of your completed application
    and keep in file
  • Send before December 1st for scholarship
    consideration

  • Work on your college apps.
  • Familiarize yourself with the FAFSA at
    www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Check www.collegeboard.com for list of schools
    requiring CSS/PROFILE
  • Give counselor your Secondary School Report by
    Monday after Thanksgiving.

  • Go to www.pin.ed.gov and get a personal
    identification number (PIN)
  • Attend Financial Aid Night at JFK.
  • Enjoy your Christmas Break.

  • Submit the FAFSA January 1st
  • Study for exams to finish Semester 1 strong

6th Kilometer February
  • Contact counselor if mid-year report is due by
    February 15th.
  • Arrange for seventh-semester transcripts to be
    mailed.
  • Once apps are complete, begin scholarship search.

  • Avoid senioritis. Accepting colleges will be
    looking at your second-semester grades.

  • Review your acceptance letters and compare
    financial aid packages.
  • All offers should be received by mid-
  • April. If you have not heard from a school,
    contact your counselor.

  • Request transcripts from registrars office of
    UW or SU if you earned college credits during
    your senior year
