The Earth Is a Sphere
  • Globes are the most accurate way to represent the
    surface of the earth
  • Satellite photography allows for high degree of
    accuracy today
  • Maps represent three dimensions using only two
    dimensions therefore all maps distort the
    earths surface to some degree

  • Grid placed upon sphere
  • Use it to pinpoint locations

  • Begins at Equator (divides earth equally), which
    is 0
  • Lines run east-west around earth
  • Parallel they never meet
  • Measured in degrees north or south of equator
  • North and South Poles are 90 N and S
