This is a picture of Hampton from a satellite
150,746,833 kilometers away. Thats 93,669,739
milesor 494,576,221,920 feet it would take
someone traveling 62 mph THREE YEARS to go this
distance!

That picture was taken todayliterally. However,
some scientists believe that 250 million years
ago Hampton may have looked something like this

It is thought that there was a single continent
known as Pangea. Though we can not be sure, the
world may have looked like the drawing above.

Over time and as the Earths plates shifted,
scientists believe that Pangea broke apart into
seven pieces which have drifted to form the world
as we know it today.
You can still see where the continents might fit
together like puzzle pieces

Regardless of what you believe, there are seven
continents that you HAVE to know. Lets begin

Continents are large land masses surrounded by
water.
There are seven ? North America ? South
America ? Africa ? Asia ? Australia ?
Antartica ? Europe Europe is considered a
continent even though it is not entirely
surrounded by water. It is frequently called
Eurasia

North America

• A continent in the Northern Hemisphere. It is
  bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the
  east by the Atlantic Ocean, the southeast by the
  Caribbean Sea, and the north and west by the
  Pacific Ocean.
• Thought to be named after the Italian explorer,
  Amerigo Vespucci.
• North America is the third largest continent.
• English, Spanish, and French are the most common
  languages in North America.

South America

• South America is in the Western Hemisphere. It
  is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on
  the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean, and
  North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the
  northwest.
• This continent was also named after Amerigo
  Vespucci.
• North and South America only recently became
  attached, 3 million years ago, by the Isthmus of
  Panama.
• Spanish and Portuguese are the most widely spoken
  language.

Africa

• Africa is a continent surrounded by the
  Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal
  and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian
  Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to
  the west.
• Africa is the second largest continent in size
  and population.
• Africa is estimated to have between 1,000 and
  2,000 languages.
• Africa is the poorest and most underdeveloped
  continent due to the slave trade and corrupt
  governments.

Asia

• Asia is the largest continent in size and
  population. Asias population is around 4 billion
  people.
• It is located in the Northern and Eastern
  hemispheres.
• It is bordered to the east by the Pacific Ocean,
  to the south by the Eastern Ocean, and to the
  north by the Arctic Ocean.
• There are several hundred languages spoken
  throughout Asia.

Australia

• Located in the Southern hemisphere, it is the
  smallest of all continents.
• In the 1700s, Australia was home to deported
  British criminals.
• Australias official language is English.

Antarctica

• Antarctica is the southernmost continent. It is
  in the southern hemisphere. It is surrounded by
  the Southern Ocean.
• 98 of this continent is covered in ice.
• Antarctica is the coldest, driest and windiest
  continent. It also has the highest average
  elevation of all the continents.
• No humans live in Antarctica-- only penguins,
  seals, and some plants.

Europe

• Europe is also known as Eurasia as it is
  connected to Asia, but separated by a mountain
  range and some waterways.
• Europe is bordered to the north by the Arctic
  Ocean, to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the
  south by the Mediterranean Sea.
• Europe is the second smallest continent.

to complete. Please label the seven continents
and four oceans listed. Once labeled, color the
map in accordingly. Remember water is ALWAYS
blue. Also, I need a KEY that tells me which
continents are which colors. Each continent
needs to be a different color. Once the entire
map is labeled and colored paste it on page 1 of
your interactive notebook. Use the map below as
a reference.
