mobile users can to stream live video captured by
their cellphone cameras to other handheld users
using a network/device independent java midlet.

Product/Technology Advantage
  • Massive scalability 100,000s concurrent mobile
video clients through a small number standard
quadcore Linux servers software does not limit
    further scalability
  • Low Cost no specific infrastructure required
  • Network agnostic our IP based technology does
not rely on any proprietary network protocol
  • Device democracy our products run without issue
on any JAVA enabled device (e.g., Blackberry,
Android(pending), cell phones), as well as the
    iPhone
  • Live or Archived our technology uniquely works
with either live or archived multimedia
  • Licensable Mobile Video solutions individual
corporate hosting is possible through all
    products which combine mobile transcoding/authorin
g, live and archived streaming, large-scale
database access of content, branded, discrete
    mobile players and portals
  • Mobile video assets of corporate clients can be
managed by corporate clients of the network
    provider

5
Product/Technology Advantage
  • Immediate Deployment - Our products/technology
will run anywhere in the world right away, except
on certain handsets in South Korea (because the
variation in midp2 java that is used on cell
phones on South Korea Samsung, LG, Sanyo,
however, use the global midp2 standard everywhere
else). Our applications will also not run on the
majority of handsets in Japan, which use "Doja" a
predecessor of midp2 as java environment (though
we did, in fact, port our old player to Doja once
in a couple of days as a test
  • Internet Based - Our video "streaming" is
Internet based and doesn't have to be provisioned
through the cellular network provider our video
streaming will run on any standard cellular or
wireless ip-network - edge, evdo, 3g, wifi live
streams start almost immediately, archived video
requires some initial buffering but works pretty
well. Also, transmission will run on ipv4 and
    ipv6 (immediately).
  • Mobile Video Authoring and Handheld Platforms -
Our solutions can transcode existing video
streams or content and immediately mobilize them
without the need of authoring software and
without special profile definitions for different
kinds of handsets. We support BlackBerries (with
more than one video and audio formats) java/j2me
handsets - Nokia, Sony Ericcson, Samsung, LG,
Sanyo, and newer Motorola handsets (Motorola's
implementation of java and 3gp support has
historically  been a problem for us, and others)
    iPhone GooglePhone/Android (is potentially
interesting for us because (1) programming is in
java and we can just port applications (2) the
operating system is Linux and that is what we use
in the server side) we can also support Windows
CE devices because we can transcode our video
stream into Windows compatible format - we just
haven't done this because the market for these
devices in smaller and less focused than
BlackBerry, iPhone and other smartphones (e.g.
    Nokia)
  • Interactive - our transmission model is structure
for precise interactive capabilities resolved to
5 second intervals of video, we can switch to a
website, another video, etc. our statistics
about video usage are resolved at 5 second
intervals and report this information and use it
for billing, demographics, loyalty points, etc.
Global no geographic boundaries to access
    multimedia
  • Additional Control - our video solutions are all
maintained through websites on the server side
and in our mobile clients, users can stipulate
video, audio only, timeshifting (on both live up
to 24hrs and archived), handset type in
Multifeed which is all live streaming, they can
    stipulate display, bitrate, framerate...ad
hoc..and hence control these factors to provide
the best quality service depending on where they
    are.

Competitive Comparison
  • Windows Media streaming - just runs on Windows
handsets has to be pre-installed, but it is
since they are the handset manufacturer mobile
video streaming runs OK over 3G, but maybe not
    over EDGE, EVDO
  • Quicktime/Apple - just runs on the iPhone has to
be pre-installed but it is since they are the
manufacturer mobile video streaming requires a
    different server
  • RealNetworks/RealPlayer - has to be pre-installed
on the handset and requires RTSP protocol and
they aren't a handset manufacturer mobile video
is special and has to be authored
  • On2 Technologies/Flash - has no PC equivalent
player for mobile a browser plug-in won't work
offer streaming server that support video that
will play in Quicktime but is more expensive than
    what Apple offers
  • MobiTV - mobile tv and no other apparent mobile
video application. Requires telco hosting because
of the pre-processing of live tv streams and
dedicated RTSP channel requirements runs on a
lot of handset but is now owned by Sprint and
    called SprintTV

12
Competitive Comparison
  • Mobile YouTube - a huge video repository does
not support live UGC cannot be licensed or
commercialized as a hosting service relies on ad
    revenue problematic considering the monumental
number of users they support mobile video
requires RTSP protocol and 3G handsets, or an
iPhone, and thus has transmission limitations
video content has no practical value
  • Orb and Slingbox - convert your home PC into a
streaming server for mobile to mobilize your TV
channels, your Internet video streams (this would
be qualified depending on the digital video
codecs they support) video is streamed to your
mobile handset from you TV through your computer
and the stream is expressed in Windows format,
RealMedia format or Quicktime your computer must
always be on and you must have a highspeed
Internet connection at home if you don't mobile
connect through home WIFI, you need a 3G handset
as the mobile streaming solution is
non-innovative and does not specifically pertain
to mobile networks this technology is fun but
pertains to the individual consumer - you can't
support your friends - and doesn't have a global
reach as globally, many people with adequate cell
phones for video streaming do not always have
PCs with high speed access, etc. Orb is just
software you download to your PC, Slingbox is a
piece of hardware you have to hookup to your TV
which was first popularized as a system that
would allow you to watch tv on your PC
