Some verbs in English do not need an object or
complement to complete their meaning. Such
verbs are called intransitive verbs.
Peter ate. The dog slept. The squirrel ran.
With a subject in front of these verbs, they
express a complete thought without needing an
object or complement to finish their meaning.
There are verbs, however, that do need an
object or complement to finish their meaning.
These verbs are called transitive verbs.
