  • Have/has been verbING
  • Mary has been living here since last month.
  • Im out of breath because I have been running.
  • We have been studying the proposals for three
    days.

Why?
  • To emphasize an action in progress that started
    in the past and is still continuing. (duration)
  • It has been snowing all day.
  • They havent been working very hard since they
    heard the news.

Is there more?
  • To show the result of an action that recently
    finished
  • Their faces are red because they have been
    laughing.
  • She looks like she has been crying, but in fact,
    she has been cutting onions.

Any exceptions?
  • Progressive verbs only remember the heart and
    head rule
  • Do not use be, have, like, love, hate, remember,
    forget, own, possess, see, hear, think, etc.
  • Be careful of verbs like taste, smell, feel, etc.
