Title: Groundbreaker Water Management System

1
Groundbreaker Water Management System
  • Steve Leigh
  • Director
  • Groundbreaker Systems

2
Business Drivers
  • Water and Construction industry directives
  • Planning, Carbon footprint etc.
  • Capital expenditure and build programmes
  • Cost effective materials and use of labour.
  • Operational expenditure budgets
  • Design out potential leakage
  • Logistical limitations
  • Accessibility
  • Technology intelligent meter reading systems.
  • Highway adoptions
  • Traffic Management Act

3
Traditional methods-
  • Economic, Sustainable or POLITICAL levels of
    leakage need to be managed.
  • Knowledge of water company assets.
  • Measurement and identification of leakage.
  • Cost of repairs of company assets (Opex)
  • Cost of repairs to street furniture
  • Cost of excavation in highway
  • Cost of meter reading billing
  • Liaison with other organisations (refurbishment
    sites)
  • Local Government has over 40b to spend on Urban
    Regeneration.
  • Work with Housing Associations (Winchester,
    Hampshire CC)
  • Lead Galvanised water service replacement
    programme.

4
New Services
  • Blue sky thinking
  • Design out leak paths (similar to Gas industry)
  • Minimise if not eliminate liabilities
  • Accessible apparatus.
  • AMR capable / increased range on meters.
  • Seasonal tariffs (smart metering)
  • Customer read meters at point of delivery
  • Water Industry Act
  • S 163 (2) Stopcock located as near as
    practicable to boundary
  • Definition left to water company in terms of
    trade

5
Developer Interface
  • Working in partnership can cut time and cost of
    utility installation
  • Direct purchase and installation of specified
materials removes cost and logistics train for
    apparatus
  • Developer saves by removing street furniture
time and cost saving on highway adoptions (how
many times do you go back to repair boundary
    boxes?)

6
Groundbreaker Systems
  • A green solution to water supply
  • Compliant with WIS 4-37-01
  • Controls water before property
  • 2 Options for fixing
  • Versatile where installed
  • Versatile when may be fixed
  • Secure by design.
  • Suitable for domestic sprinkler systems

7
Identify each water service
  • Avoid these situations

Which pipe serves what property? Or find the
boundary box
8
Groundbreaker Contaminated Ground (Brownfield)
  • Water Regulations Advisory Service Guide Note
9-04-03 selection of materials in contaminated
    land
  • As Groundbreaker is mounted above ground, it is
not subject to the requirements for sealed meter
housings as is often the case.
  • Why specify expensive heavyweight boundary boxes
    that use virgin materials ?
  • Groundbreaker is capable of taking all 25mm dia.
water service pipes including barrier pipe
    without special arrangements being made.
  • By use of GPS adaptors, Groundbreaker can also
    accept copper pipes

9
Working in PARTNERSHIP .
  • With the water company to ensure compliance
    with Water Regulations.
  • Because Groundbreaker is above ground it is
subject to potential freezing situations, which
is why we had it tested independently by WRc to
ensure compliance with WIS 4-37-01 (resistant to
temps of -13C for 48 hours)
  • It is therefore ESSENTIAL that the product is
    installed correctly, with an appropriate
thickness of insulation (specified) being used
    for the installation.
  • Failure to do so or to manage such installations
could result in freezing and damage to apparatus.
  • We suggest a water company to use either a
Groundbreaker approved contractor to carry out
an installation or to carry out an inspection
under Water Regulations on each property using
the system to ensure compliance with Water
    Regulation Guidance note R4.11

10
Please try to avoid these situations-
11
Business Benefit - General
  • Direct access to water meter
  • Secure by Design
  • B.Regs Part M compliant
  • No street furniture
  • Ideal for brown field sites
  • Ideal for refurbishments /
  • urban regeneration.
  • Ideal for water service repairs
  • Cuts time and cost of water
  • connections
  • With 40,000 units already installed in various
parts of the UK, we believe that we can add value
    to YOUR project

12
INSUduct on its own
  • Urban Regeneration / Decent Homes
  • Lead replacements
  • Shared services
  • Leakage repair
  • Financed under grant aid
  • Why not add Groundbreaker and a water meter to
avoid future excavation in the highway?

13
SHalloduct part 1
  • Pipe protection for shallow lay situations

14
SHalloduct part 2
  • Impact protection through load bearing twin
    wall pipe.
  • Capable of taking either standard PE or barrier
    pipe (25 or 32mm dia)
  • Impermeable Insulation to BS WRAS standards
  • Cut costs of excavation and carting away of spoil
    particularly in contaminated situations

15
Further References
  • Compliant with WIS 4-37-01 (frost test for
    boundary boxes)
  • Compliant with Water Regulation R4.4 R4.11
    frost protection.
  • Compliant with Water Regulation Guidance Note
    9-02-02 frost protection
  • WRAS, WRc Kiwa Approved where appropriate
  • UVDB / Achilles Accredited

    need replacing

16
NRv2
  • Cost effective whole site protection against back
    flow
  • Protection to fluid category 3
