• According to the HSE
• Stress is the adverse reaction people have to
  excessive pressures or other demands paced upon
  them. There is a clear distinction between
  pressure, which can create a buzz and be a
  motivating factor, and stress, which can occur
  when this pressure becomes excessive.
• In the UK alone, it has been estimated that about
  40,000,000 working days are lost every year
  through absence caused by stress related
  problems.
• In todays climate, stress is the second most
  often given reason for absence from work.
• Workers on a long term absence as a result of
  stress are less likely to return to work
