What they are about!

• The TCT is a trust which opens up special units
  for teenagers who have cancer
• The use money to build the units so the teens can
  interact together as teenagers
• They build them so teens dont have to go with
  the older generation or the younger ones either.
• They have a better way of living even though they
  have cancer.

How would you feel?

• Q If you or a friend was diagnosed with cancer
  how would you feel if you got stuck with people
  75 and over or screaming children of 7 and under?
• I am guessing that you wouldnt like it that
  much, you would rather be with people your own
  age and treated like a teenagers and not someone
  old or like a kid.
• Cancer is bad enough without the stress and noise
  of children and the quiet time of old people.
• Teenagers prefer to have fun and forget about
  their illness. No one wants to constantly be
  aware that they might die they want to enjoy
  themselves and be themselves.
• Thats why these units are built.

Where are they?

• This is a map of where all the units are or going
  to be or want to be.
• The blue dots are the current units that are
  built
• The green dots are the ones that are being built
  and are being developed
• The red dots are the ones that are in discussion
  of being built.

• They want 20 hospitals to be equipped with a
  teenage cancer unit.
• At the moment there are 8 hospitals that have
  them
• There are 15 wanting the units
• Unfortunately it costs 2 million pounds to build
  one unit.

Serious!

• Every day 1 in 6 teenager find out they have
  cancer of some description
• That is over 2,200 new diagnosis's a year
• By the age you are 15 you have a 1 in 600 chance
  of developing cancer.
• 85 of all teens survive cancer. Since the units
  opening it has increased by 15 all because they
  recover with people of their own age

  trust.
• They have many stories of children they have seen
  and spoken too.

What do they say

• Nigel Susie and Iain speak about people and
  things that they have heard from the teenagers
  themselves. They speak of real stories and know a
  lot about the situation young people find them in.

The units

• In the units they have their own little kitchen
  for the patients as when they get hungry, which
  isn't very often, they want something nice so
  this is where the can get their own food that
  people like friends have brought for them.
• They also have their own room where the adults
  are strictly not allowed to go unless all
  teenagers in the unit agree they are allowed in.
• In that room they have a study and games,
  computers, sofas, plasma TVs, and music system
  and all other stuff that teenagers like.
• It the rooms where the beds are they have a pool
  table in the centre and there is no time limit to
  when they have to get up in the morning.
