Caleb - Joshua (141-12)
46Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in
Gilgal and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the
Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing
that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God
concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. 7Forty
years old was I when Moses the servant of the
LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the
land and I brought him word again as it was in
mine heart. 8Nevertheless my brethren that went
up with me made the heart of the people melt but
I wholly followed the LORD my God. 9And Moses
sware on that day, saying, Surely the land
whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine
inheritance, and thy childrens for ever, because
thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God. 10And
now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he
said, these forty and five years, even since the
LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the
children of Israel wandered in the wilderness
and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five
years old. 11As yet I am as strong this day as I
was in the day that Moses sent me as my strength
was then, even so is my strength now, for war,
both to go out, and to come in. 12Now therefore
whereof the
LORD spake in that day for thou heardest in that
day how the Anakims were there, and that the
cities were great and fenced if so be the LORD
will be with me, then I shall be able to drive
them out, as the LORD said. 13And Joshua blessed
him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh
Hebron for an inheritance. 14Hebron therefore
became the inheritance of Caleb the son of
Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because
that he wholly followed the LORD God of
Israel. Joshua 141-14

The World has taken it to the Church
Christians have either been (1) absorbed into
the world, (2) gotten cozy with mediocrity, (3)
become influence peddlers, (4) become
indifferent to learning and self-improvement, and
(5) distracted by self-aggrandizement or (6) some
unhealthy combination of all of the above. As
advanced tennis players know, competing at higher
levels requires, a weapon (advanced power shot)
in ones arsenal to complement an all around
game. In order to survive the current implosion
of Church and Christian School attendance, we
will have to do the same Develop an all around
game and then complement it by a distinguishing
feature (power shot) that sets us apart from
those who are content with the status quo while
maintaining the integrity of our message and
purpose

13Resilient Visionary
- One who understands his current context and knows
why he is here, - Has a very clear picture of where he wants to be
in the future, maintains strong focus and
adaptive capacity, and - Understands he will face opposition from natural
forces, enemies and sometimes even those close to
him yet refuses to allow setbacks to dim the
picture.

20What Others Have to Say
- It is important to understand that we developed
all of the concepts in this book by making
empirical deduction directly from the data We
sought to build a theory from the ground up,
derived directly from the evidence. Good to

skills and experience can only be judged by
demonstration or performance based on numerical
measurements. An Audit of the System Not of the

- We must confront the paradox, own it, live it,
celebrate it if we are to make much headway in
achieving excellence. We must cultivate passion
and trust, and at virtually the same moment we
must delve unmercifully into the details. A
Passion for Excellence by Tom Peters - Knowing what to measure and how to measure it
makes a complicated world much less so. If you
learn to look at data in the right way you can
explain riddles that otherwise might have seemed
impossible, because there is nothing like the
sheer power of numbers to scrub away layers of
confusion and contradiction. Freakonomics by

26Relentless Strategist
- One who knows a plan is only as good as the
underlying data used to help formulate the plan, - One who thoroughly sweats the small stuff in an
effort to find the dogs that bark and the dogs
that didnt bark, - One who understands that distractions,
inattention to detail and shoot from the hip
implementations will sabotage his efforts and
risk alienating support and therefore persists
diligently in carefully thought out strategies.

- What things do you think would be important for
us to collect data on and analyze numerically in
search of barking and non-barking dogs to be
successful in conquering our giants?

increase learning, heighten interest in Bible

increased attendance?

31CloserCompleting the task God has given me
And here I am today, eighty-five years old! Im
as strong as ever in battle, whether coming or
going. So give me this hill country that God
promised me. You yourself heard the report, that
the Anakim were there with their great fortress
cities. If God goes with me, I will drive them
out, just as God said. (Joshua 1412) The
Message translation of the Bible
It is important to grasp that Level 5 leadership
is not just about humility and modesty. It is
equally about ferocious resolve, an almost stoic
determination to do whatever needs to be done to
make the company great. Good to Great by

37Ephesians 2 1-5
1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in
trespasses and sins 2Wherein in time past ye
walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that now worketh in the children of
disobedience 3Among whom also we all had our
conversation in times past in the lusts of our
flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of
the mind and were by nature the children of
wrath, even as others. 4But God, who is rich in
mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened
us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)

13Brethren, I count not myself to have
apprehended but this one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind, and reaching forth
unto those things which are before, 14I press
toward the mark for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus.
40I Corinthians 922
22To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain
the weak I am made all things to all men, that I
might by all means save some.
41Dogs that Bark(Observations that jump out)
- Church attendance is down 2 years running
- The last 6 months we have seen 50 increase in
Sunday School attendance - The average distance our members drive is a 7
mile radius - 75 of our members drive less than 3 miles to
church
42Dogs that DONT Bark(Observations that dont
jump out)
- Regular Sunday School attendees are more likely
to leave Church before they are full grown that
those who only attend church - Children who regularly attend Sunday School are
slightly less honest than those who never darken
the door of a church
